Swiss vote to ban minarets

swiss vote to bank minaretsUPDATE: The Swiss measure has passed and will be written into the Constitution - no minarets in Switzerland!  I'm moving to Lake Geneva.

On Sunday, November 29, the Swiss will vote on a referendum to ban minarets in their country. The proposal is sponsored by the most popular party, which is deemed "right wing." So-called radical feminists are backing the ban as well, because they view the minarets as male symbols - phalluses, obviously - and equate them with the Islamic oppression of women.

Raised in this debate is the quote from the Turkish prime minister Tayyip Erdogan, who stated that minarets were the "bayonets" of the Muslim religion, an obvious war term indicating the true intentions of Islamic global domination. Needless to say, such remarks are perceived as a threat to Western civilization, and rightly so. As one "local housewife" Julia Werner says:

"If we give them a minaret, they’ll have us all wearing burqas. Before you know it, we’ll have sharia law and women being stoned to death in our streets. We won't be Swiss any more."

The left, naturally, is "appalled" by this development, while a Swiss foreign minister expressed fear that the country would be terrorized if it votes yes on the ban!

The government, for its part, is worried about reprisals plunging Switzerland into the front line of the war against terror. Micheline Calmy-Rey, the foreign minister, said a yes vote "could make Switzerland a target for Islamic terrorism."

In other words, "we are cowards who will not defend our culture against bullies threatening to dominate us through violence." And what does this fear say concerning the rank-and-file Muslims who are complaining about "discrimination?" The obvious perception is that if we all don't cave into them, they will terrorize us and commit violence against us.

Switzerland votes to ban minarets

Switzerland has voted to impose a blanket ban on the building of minarets across the country, backing an initiative by far-right politicians.

A clear majority of 57.5 per cent of the population and 22 out of 26 cantons voted to ban the towers or turrets attached on mosques from where Muslims are called to prayer.

Women lead Swiss in vote to ban minarets

A right-wing campaign to outlaw minarets on mosques in a referendum being held in Switzerland today has received an unlikely boost from radical feminists arguing that the tower-like structures are "male power symbols" and reminders of Islam’s oppression of women.

A "stop the minarets" campaign has provoked ferment in the land of Heidi, where women are more likely than men to vote for the ban after warnings from prominent feminists that Islam threatens their rights....

It is about time the western world stood up and said no to other cultures immigrating to our countries and trying to turn them into the third world back waters they ran away from. If you want minarets and sharia law stay in YOUR country. How many Swiss have immigrated to the middle east and tried to impose their way of life (enlighted, civilized) on the 7th century whack jobs. It does not. happen. Our cultures are the way they are because of the European inhabitants who have progressed, who use their intellectual abilities . I almost hate to say that race has everything to do with it, but anyone who believes this not to be the reality of our world is just willfully ignorant. If multi-culturism is such a grand thing then immigrate to the middle east or africa. I guarantee you will not end up holding hands with people who consider you infidels and singing kumbya. It is time the occidental world said go home and do not come back EVER!!!

YIPPIE - at least some people have their head on straight. Maybe they could talk to the US Gov't & Congress and the rest of the western world? And lets not forget about the UN.

So, let me make sure I got this straight - it was the women who had the BALLS to stand up to Islamist bullsh*t? So, the men are cowards or what? The men should get a severe bollocking!

Thank the goddess for these brave & courageous women who had the guts to stand up in protest against the women hating cult known as Islam. These women obviously recognize that they will never have equal rights so long as Islam is around. All women need to realize that.

To the hotties in Switzerland, come to the US - I'll fight for ya!

I was doing a Google Search not too long ago for Feb 15, 2003 when Howard Zinn had said there were massive protests. From the list or 100 results I saw something that looked interesting. It was a DOC file and so I downloaded it and used Word Viewer to read it. This is the first part:

    Quote:
    Islam and Terrorism
An Address By: Dr. Labib Mikhail
    Symposium on Islam
    February 15, 2003
The Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill

I was quite honored when the Christian Coalition of America invited me to be part of this symposium on Islam. My subject is “Islam and Terrorism.”

And this is the part that surprised me because it is such a contrast of inequality that I think Acharya has already pointed out that our freedom of religious expression has been taken advantage of. Now here's a quote just towards the end of that document.

    Quote:
Meantime, I would like to say to the Muslims that there are major differences between Christianity and Islam. Christianity created free societies, where freedom of religion is granted. Muslims took advantage of this freedom and built hundreds of Mosques in England, in Australia, in Canada, and in the United States of America. While in Saudi Arabia, they do not permit the construction of even one church. In Afghanistan, during the reign of King Zahir Shah the only existing church, which had been built by president Eisenhower’s request of King Zahir, was demolished on May 17, 1970.

They seem to feel that rules that are unequal are okay. So I think we should do unto them as they have done unto us and make a rule that is the exception to the rule of allowing freedom of religious expression. You could call it an exception to the rule or qualifications to be able to reap the benefits of that rule.

As you can see from the beginning part and because it was found via the date only "Feb 15, 2003" I was wondering how applicable the next quote is.

    Quote:
While the Saudis distribute thousands of copies of the Koran in the US and elsewhere, they do not permit even one Bible into the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This is one major difference between Christianity and Islam.

I remember when going to hotels across the United States and even when I had a business trip around the world I remembered seeing the Bible in some of the places I was staying. So is it true that they still do this?
