The hardline Iranian regime has arrested several people accused of ripping up photos of the Islamic Republic leader Ayatollah Khomeini, promising "no mercy" will be shown these alleged desecrators of the popular "spiritual" leader. It's hard to believe that Iranians still have any sort of positive feelings towards such an angry, hateful person whose bigoted and tyrannical perspective of reality has brought such atrocity and grief to so many over the past 30 years. In addition to establishing a cultic tyranny that virtually enslaves women, Khomeini is quoted as saying the following very enlightened remarks:
"War is a blessing for the world and for all nations. It is God who incites men to fight and to kill. The Koran says, 'Fight until all corruption and all rebellion have ceased.' The wars the Prophet led against the infidels were a blessing for all humanity. Imagine that we soon will win the war. That will not be enough, for corruption and resistance to Islam will still exist. The Koran says, 'War, war until victory!...' The mullahs with corrupt hearts who say that all this is contrary to the teachings of the Koran are unworthy of Islam. Thanks to God, our young people are now, to the limits of their means, putting God's commandments into action. They know that to kill the unbelievers is one of man's greatest missions." There's the great hero of the Islamic Republic over whose image people are now being arrested - and will likely be tortured if not murdered. Tearing up images of such a vile character is highly understandable.

Iranian authorities have arrested several people accused of destroying photos of the Islamic Republic's revered founder and the current supreme leader at student demonstrations, state media reported Monday.
Tehran's prosecutor promised to show "no mercy" to those responsible, but the news reports carrying his remarks gave no details on who was arrested....
But the protesters have denied government claims they also tore up a photo of the leader of Iran's 1979 revolution, the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who remains a widely respected figure in Iran....

If Iran ever reverts back to a pre-1979 culture (minus the Shah, of course) imagine the effect (or the shock) it would have on the Gulf-based economies. I can imagine it now- Quite suddenly, there would be, on the northern shores of the oil-rich gulf, a huge, dynamic, free nation just as oil-rich as their Southern Arab neighbours, but more tolerant! Businesses and Investments would flow into Iran. Imagine all the building and development popping up along the Persian Riviera and the Caspian shores! Imagine tourists relaxing in the balmy summer sun in Shiraz!
But then, would the traditional western arms-producers afford their prime customers relax in the peace and quiet?

Iran does sit on the world's second largest oil reserves - imagine what life could be like if the Iranian people were allowed to partake in these riches and to determine for themselves how they wished to live!
I would LOVE to see the day. I don't know that the third-party weapons manufacturers are necessarily "Western," however. What about the Russians and Chinese? North Koreans? Where else are weapons made? A good reminder to follow the money.
