I know I'll get in trouble for this one, but I can't help it. Lessee: Barack Obama makes a speech in Cairo full of erroneous claims about Islam's great contributions to the world, appoints Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood members to his cabinet and supports the "popular uprising" of Egypt. Now the "free" Egyptian people are calling for the destruction of Israel and the seizure of Jerusalem. So...get it?

Although, I have to note that I didn't read some of the words acknowledging attributes of Islam's contributions as categorical. In the case of music for instance, I read it as saying that muslims or arabic music is part of the world music catalogue to be acknowledged. That's how I read that portion of the statement, but I cannot climb into his head. It didn't seem to me that he was saying that islam was music developments primary force.
And, even though my personal opinion of arabic or muslim contributions to music are not positive - I prefer a more Euopean approach to music. The arab culture did supply the primitive forms of several instruments which went on to become standard symphonic instruments in European music.
In addition, right or wrong, at this point in history there will be these kinds of speeches performed as bridge building diplomacy. George W. Bush made more than a few of these kinds of honey dripping speeches. A necessary evil? I don't know.
