Melanie Phillips on Islam in Europe

E-mail Print PDF

Melanie Phillips is a well-written and well-spoken, erudite individual who obviously knows what's going on with Islam, especially in her own land of Great Britain. She's a bit Judeo-Christianity myopic, but she's courageous and eloquent in speaking the truth about Islam.

How you people liking the multiculturalism of the modern world? I am. What a gas. Sharia law is finally establishing itself as something worth looking at in a serious mindset instead of the 'purist fantasy' of the psychedelic generation. I really can't wait for that deer in the headlight look on the faces of all the so-called wise people of western civilization when they finally realize their baby girls are nothing more than sluts and that under Sharia law the men will finally get to be what men are supposed to be....dominant. I don't speak the language yet but as a swinging dick I'm sure I'll fit in just fine....just got to change my skin tone a little......I'm so happy to finally see the wisdom of the west to be dashed upon the rock of reality...aren't you? "Thinking themselves wise they became fools"...that's a Bible quote but you wouldn't know that......I'm not supposed to say this but, "I told you so"......

Acarya, I am dismayed that you saw fit to have linked to this idiot's vid. I call bullsh*t on it. The factoids she spews are only true in the minds of petty little Englanders. Her kind have NO comprehension whereof they speak: I know because I know the community whereof she speaks, and the dissonance is so great as to provoke a migraine. Her poisonous kind are only concerned with the preservation of their perquisites, and could not give a damn about their fellow humans. That Islam is flawed is no excuse to give her space on your site: you only marr your own admirable work. In closing, let me point out the she writes for the Daily Mail, a rag lower the execrable press you have to put up with in the US. Understand, NOBODY with any intelligence, humanity or morality credits the Mail as being anything other than toilet paper in waiting.

Calumny aside, what exactly is she saying here, other than the Judeo-Christian myopia I already commented on, that is not true?

As concerns the Daily Mail, regardless of how you feel about the rest of the paper, it seems to be the only news outlet in Great Britain likewise telling the truth about Islam.

What is "dismaying" is how ignorant people are about Islam and how they are allowing it to flourish, by spewing hatred at courageous people like Melanie Philips for telling the truth about it.

If you are "dismayed" by her stance, then you must not know much about my work or have even read much of this blog, where I say pretty much the same thing - which happens to be the truth about Islam. Did you honestly believe I would support a manmade, male-dominant cult that has caused horrendous human rights abuses and women-hatred all over the world?

The only "egregious error" here is the apparent support of the most misogynistic and divisive cult the world has ever known.

"the inconvenience of the moral codes that organised religion has thrown up..." an unfortunate choice of words to say the least. In the past, dogma was imposed. In a secular environment we have the right to examine and question critically, to inquire freely and to contemplate without threat. The debate over Islam in Europe generally will not progress until there is an acceptance that certain principles need to asserted without ambiguity. The first is that in an open society, as envisaged by Karl Popper for example, freedom implies responsibility. We have the privilege to reason and reflect without intimidation. This right should not be abused. Secondly, to criticise an idea, refute any conjecture or deconstruct some purported moral position or perhaps analyse a given cultural tradition, we must educate ourselves deeply about it, whatever that may imply. Sophist opinion and rhetorical abuse is unconvincing. M. Phillips is familiar to us in this country for her journalistic opinionated style and and she is entitled to express it. However, she is no oracle, nor is she exempt from error. Her perceptions are her own, other duly scholarly-minded individuals might disagree with her. Cultural stereotypes left unchallenged are dangerous from any perspective, and it is the task of the best educated individuals to disabuse the less fortunate. Not all Muslims are bigots, but many little Englanders are. If our intellectual and spiritual understanding is incapable of tolerating a more enlightened interpretation or mutated form of "post-Enlightenment Islam," then we are not much of a culture to be proud of.

A post-script to my previous comment Acharya. The Phillips video sounds like it may have been recorded in Australia. This is her Spectator diary account of her trip as a guest of the United Israel Appeal last year, that gives a pretty clear account of her opinions, that certainly will not impress most of the reasonably sane people I know in the UK, but might console the lowest common denominator of a more reactionary minority -

I grew up in England of mixed race, white English and Hindu-Indian ancestry, an atheist primarily sometimes an agnostic depending on my mood. I can appreciate her comments about the creeping take-over by Islam, Shariat law, conversion of Brits to Islam, increase in crime, exploitation of women both British and non-British by muslim men, etc, etc. The whole muslim story in Britain is a train-wreck.

But,it is not "multiculturalism" that is the problem but "Islamism". So, one has to be careful. Since, with globalization, "multiculturalism" is inevitable particularly in countries like America, Britain or the countries of northern Europe.

Other religious groups in Europe such as Indian Hindus , Sikhs, Christians, Asian Buddhists, Jews, other ethnic groups have contributed positively to British society. In fact, Jews, Hindus, Chinese earn more than the average British white person and often are in the upper-rungs of society. Many from these groups have integrated well and are "British" in every sense of the word except for their skin colour or ethnic origins.

By and large , the "multicultural" experiment has been successful in Britain like in America.

So, what Melanie Phillips fails to point out in this video is that "multicultuturalism" is not the the problem but "Islamism".

However, her comments about the destructive nature of "Islamism" are right on the money!

It is important to distinguish between the obviously positive effects of multiculturalism as opposed to the isolationist, nihilistic, bigoted, intolerant nature of Islam

Feder, Professor of Archaeology, Central Connecticut State University, Frauds, Myths, and Mysteries: Science and Pseudoscience In Archaeology

"I find myself in full agreement with Acharya S/D.M. Murdock... I find it undeniable that...many, many of the epic heroes and ancient patriarchs and matriarchs of the Old Testament were personified stars, planets, and constellations..." —Dr. Robert M. Price, The Pre-Nicene New Testament

"I can recommend your work whole-heartedly!" —Dr. Robert Eisenman, James the Brother of Jesus and The New Testament Code, RobertEisenman.com

"Well-referenced, with numerous quotations from renowned Egyptologists and classical scholars, Acharya's penetrating research clearly lays out the very ancient pre-Christian basis of modern Christianity. Schoch, Professor of Natural Science College of General Studies at Boston University; Author, Pyramid Quest, Voyages of the Pyramid Builders and Voices of the Rocks

"Acharya S deserves to be recognized as a leading researcher and an expert in the field of comparative mythology, on a par with James Frazer or Robert Graves—indeed, superior to those forerunners in the frankness of her conclusions and the volume of her evidence." —Barbara Walker, The Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets and Man Made God

"I've known people with triple Ph.D's who haven't come close to the scholarship in Who Was Jesus?" —Pastor David Bruce, M.Div, North Park Seminary, Chicago, HollywoodJesus.com

"Thirty years ago, when in divinity school, I might have had second thoughts about becoming an Episcopal priest if a book like D. M. Murdock's Who Was Jesus? had been available to me." —Bob Semes, Retired university professor of History and Religion, Founder and Executive Director of The Jefferson Center

"In addition to presenting in Suns of God the troubling history of religious wars in an easily followed narrative, Acharya goes a step further, explaining as only she can how a once-simplistic idea has been carried into our modern world with terrible and nearly unimaginable results." —Rev. Dr. W. Sumner Davis, Fellow, Royal Astronomical Society; Member, American Geophysical Union; Affiliate, New York Academy of Science

"Ms. Murdock is one of only a tiny number of scholars with the richly diverse academic background (and the necessary courage) to adequately address the question of whether Jesus Christ truly existed as a walking-talking figure in first-century Palestine." —David Mills, Atheist Universe

"Thank you, Acharya, for the important work you are doing. Who Was Jesus? Fingerprints of the Christ just might be the best short introduction to Biblical scholarship yet." —David Bergland, 1984 Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate, Libertarianism In One Lesson

"...I have found her scholarship, research, knowledge of the original languages, and creative linkages to be breathtaking and highly stimulating." —Rev. Dr. Jon Burnham, Pastor, Presbyterian Church, Houston, TX
