UPDATE: True to form, Muslim fanatics "have now effectively erased all evidence of our Buddhist past," as they smashed Buddha statues from the 12th century. Receiving funds from jihadists abroad, the island nation is grotesquely sick and needs to be qurantined. Tourists, beware: "Few have any idea they are visiting a country of 330,000 Muslims with no religious freedom, where women can be flogged for extramarital sex and consuming alcohol is illegal for locals."
In response to calls for stricter Islamic or sharia law in the Republic of Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean that already prohibits the worship of any religion other than Islam, Maldivian president Mohammed Nasheed expressed his frustration by stating:
"To build our economy we need foreign investments and we need to create an environment in which foreigners can invest....
"We can't achieve development by going backwards to the stone age or being ignorant...
"Should we ban music? Should we mutilate girls' genitals? Should we allow 9 year-olds to be married? Should we forbid art and drawing? Should we be allowed to take concubines? Is this nation building?"
In his candor, this Muslim president of an entirely Muslim nation has admitted to the world's press that Islamic/sharia law bans music, mutilates girls' genitals, allows 9-year-olds to be married, forbids art and allows "concubines" - i.e., sex slaves.
All of these aspects of sharia law have been denied repeatedly by apologists; yet, they are in reality obviously well known, as we can see from the discussions by Muslim authorities at the following site as well:

Unfortunately, I don't see this president lasting in office for very long, with such admissions - he will probably be "Arab Springed." And that peril is precisely why there are few moderate Muslims speaking out.

Every time I watch videos from MEMRI, I feel as if I stuck my head up a demon's ass or maybe into another Universe. The movie Even Horizon captured this feeling. The pathology of Islam is so unbelievably deep. I see no point in ever attempting to coexist with Islam.
Most of the Indian Christian/hindu population and British/Aussie expats are leaving the islands for fear of their safety.
Sadly, it used to be a popular tourist resort for Brits, Aussies, South Africans, rich Indians, people into scuba diving in the Coral reef areas.
This is also hurting the fishing industry and the fragile ecosystem because the Chinese, Pakistanis, indonesians and Arabs have taught the Maldivians "Blast fishing" which is not only depleting the fish stocks but also destroying the pristine coral reefs which were well-protected by International environmental groups.
I have also visited both Seychelles and Mauritius. I had always fantasized about setting up a pristine yoga retreat in the pristine golden sands of these islands for foreigners and locals.
But, alas no more.
