Israeli woman leaves behind 1,400 descendants?!

E-mail Print PDF

A 99-year-old Ultra-Orthodox Jewish woman, Rachel Krishevsky, recently died, leaving behind some 1,400 descendants. Yes, you read that right. It seems her 11 children went on to produce 150 grandchildren for her, who then went on to have a boatload of kids, and so on.

Amazing.  I will be lucky if I leave behind more than one descendant. But, then again, with the way things are going, I'm not really keen on my progeny being enslaved under an Islamic caliphate anyway.

In consideration of this story--and many others I've read about the prolificacy of Orthodox Jews--you'd think there would be much more than a mere single-digit percentage of Jews on this planet.  Reminds me of the old Mark Twain commentary:

You will say that the Jew is everywhere numerically feeble.... When I read in the Encyclopedia Britannica that the Jewish population of the United States was 250,000, I wrote the editor, and explained to him that I was personally acquainted with more Jews than that in my country, and that his figures were without a doubt a misprint for 25,000,000. I also added that I was personally acquainted with that many there...

One Russian woman in the 18th century, Mrs. Feodor Vassilyev of Shuya, allegedly gave birth 69 children! Unbelievable.

Well just maybe one of those descendants will be the messiah so many people are wating for! :ooo:
  • Doug Allitt  - Why do you need a messiah?
    I personally don't need a "messiah".

And if one happens to show up who would believe him/her/it anyway.

Why not live a life where you are the miracle you have been waiting for!

You could do it if you really tried!!

We are all miracles - make your life a miracle to behold - then, for you, your "messiah" has indeed arrived.
  • Doug Allitt  - World's greatest problem
What on earth would make a woman want to have 11 children? Ignorance? Every country in the world should now adopt a one child policy before it is too late for mother earth.

People - just do the maths. I believe we probably have another 15 years max. before mass food riots in developed nations.

I my country of Australia, the State Governments cannot keep up with infrastructure. The roads are clogged, water shortages are a very real problem, houses now occupy land which was once covered with orchards and vegetable gardens. Angry youths patrol the streets at night committing acts of violence.

Yet we still adhere to a policy of immigration. Our population is growing at a rate that ensures eventual poverty and starvation for all - and it will come like a thief in the night.

Governments the world over do not appear to have the balls to make the decisions to allow my and others grandchildren to sit down to a hearty meal as we still can do now.

I sometimes fear that we have seen the best of it.

The worst perpetrators are ignorant religions that still encourage huge families. Where do they think the food will come from? The water? The medical care?

Such is blind faith I guess. How sad.

    Doug.

"In addition to presenting in Suns of God the troubling history of religious wars in an easily followed narrative, Acharya goes a step further, explaining as only she can how a once-simplistic idea has been carried into our modern world with terrible and nearly unimaginable results." —Rev. Dr. W. Sumner Davis, Fellow, Royal Astronomical Society; Member, American Geophysical Union; Affiliate, New York Academy of Science

"Ms. Murdock is one of only a tiny number of scholars with the richly diverse academic background (and the necessary courage) to adequately address the question of whether Jesus Christ truly existed as a walking-talking figure in first-century Palestine." —David Mills, Atheist Universe

"Thank you, Acharya, for the important work you are doing. Who Was Jesus? Fingerprints of the Christ just might be the best short introduction to Biblical scholarship yet." —David Bergland, 1984 Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate, Libertarianism In One Lesson
