The book "The Secret Architecture of Our Nation's Capital: The Masons and the Building of Washington, D.C." by David Ovason is a fascinating study of masonic astrology in the context of city-planning. I actually just learned Dan Brown used some of David's research in The Lost Symbol. The book is properly referenced and is not in any way "conspiracy literature" - in fact the author expresses his respect for the Freemasons.

You might find reviews that say it's hard to follow, but I thought it was thorough and exhaustive.
