I am reading "Christ in Egypt" and am in the Chapter about Isis, Osiiris and Horus being the Sun God. D.M Murdock talks about the Sun God being reborn in the East (Sun rises in the East) and mentioned that many early Churches were built with the High Altar facing East so the priest says Mass facing East. Even if a Church can't be built facing the cardinal points of the compass the Chancel is always called the East end, Trancepts: North and South and Front entrance: the West End. I have always known about that but never really knew why when I was a Roman Catholic. I never bothered to find out. I know now that one can never believe the BS the Church tells you. I would not have been given the true answer.
Does anyone know what reason the Church would give for this alignment of Churches?
BTW, the book is excellent.
