Here's a peice from Richard Dawkin's site. The circumstance sounds familiar doesn't it, which is why I tend to infer directly and indirectly that Islam is an outgrowth of Judaism. I really shouldn't start a new stream on Judaism should I? However, I think a single stream on the nature and doings of Judaists (in all it's forms) should be documented also.

Jewish 'ultras' defend morals with menace

The Haredi sect has launched an aggressive campaign against the secular lifestyles of women in Jerusalem

Four months ago in the middle of the night, six men dressed in wide-brimmed black hats, black coats, white shirts and black trousers burst into the Jerusalem apartment of a young Jewish woman and taught her a lesson.

Mikhail, who is reluctant to give her full name, had scandalised members of her ultra-orthodox Jewish community by leaving her husband and embracing a secular lifestyle. The men, all members of the theologically conservative Haredi branch of Judaism, tackled her to the ground, slammed her head against the floor and tied a rag around her mouth. One assailant sat on her head as the others kicked her while demanding to know the names of the men she was seeing.

They also threatened to kill her if she did not leave the neighbourhood, which contains many secular as well as religious residents. 'A woman is only OK if she has a family, kids and a husband,' said Mikhail with a sigh.

Welcome to the new, increasingly orthodox, Jerusalem. The attack on Mikhail, although exceptionally brutal, was only the latest in a string of assaults over the past two years against Jewish women accused of immoral behaviour in the city.

In relative terms, Orthodox Jews dominate Jerusalem to a greater extent than in any other city in Israel. More than 30 per cent of its Jewish residents are Haredi while only 22 per cent are secular. Of the remaining 47 per cent, 14 per cent say they are religious and 33 per cent say they are traditional Jews.

According to Menachem Friedman, a sociology professor at Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv, the orthodox are imposing their rules more forcefully than before and the lives of the city's women are becoming more circumscribed, and sometimes more dangerous, as a result. Friedman grew up in an ultra-orthodox family and has been studying the Haredi for 49 years. He said the extreme atmosphere is tangible.

Self-appointed moral guardians, dubbed the 'modesty police' by Israel's modern secular media, roam Jerusalem's ultra-religious neighbourhoods enforcing the voluminous and ever growing list of rabbinical laws such as the recent decree banning the sale of MP4 players. About 100 Haredi women have taken to wearing scarves and veils to cover themselves much like Muslim women.

Yoel Kreus is known locally in the Mea Shearim area of the city as the 'manager of operations'. He describes himself as a 'shmira', a Hebrew word that translates as 'watcher of Israel'. 'I make sure the rabbis' decisions happen ... I help you to be a moral person,' he said.

Much of Kreus's time is spent checking out reports of illicit use of new technologies by members of the Haredi community. 'If we discover someone has a computer at home we throw the children out of school,' he said. Enforcing dictates on women's behaviour is another vital part of his brief.

He runs a library housing copies of the enormous notices pasted on the walls of Mea Shearim and other religious neighbourhoods berating women for wearing wigs instead of scarves and advertising appropriate dress on buses.

Signs warning women not to enter if they are wearing trousers, short sleeves or a skirt above the knees, hang in the neighbourhood. One is affixed outside Kreus's two-room house where he lives with his wife and 11 children. 'Every week there's a complaint about the way women dress,' said Kreus.

Extraordinarily, he admitted to slashing the tyres of women who have driven into the neighbourhood who, he said, were indecently dressed. 'There was a mess with the police,' he said. 'Now I'm trying new creative methods, not using violence. Now I make a small hole in their tyres and the air deflates slowly. I'm not destroying their car.'

Inside the Haredi neighbourhoods separation between the sexes is becoming increasingly strict. Husbands and wives socialise separately and during Jewish holidays men and women walk on opposite sides of the street.

Kreus said that in a few weeks, when religious Jews will dance to celebrate the receiving of the Torah, men and women would rejoice separately, breaking a 50- year tradition of the sexes mingling in this neighbourhood during this event.

He maintained that separation was necessary beyond the boundaries of the neighbourhood. 'Having secular people on the buses is a problem. They go like animals, without clothes. Non-religious girls don't dress properly. They encourage me to sin,' he said.

With the demographics skewed in their favour, government authorities are acquiescing to the growing demands of the ultra-orthodox. The transport ministry, which regulates and funds bus transport through private companies, has allowed operators to provide 'kosher' or 'pure' routes, where women are required to sit at the back and cannot board unless appropriately dressed.

More than a dozen women have filed complaints after being verbally or physically attacked on the buses. 'Sometimes it's an official group but often it's one or two men who start to complain and the other men follow,' said the Israel Religious Action Centre's legal director, Einat Hurvitz. 'The drivers allow them to intimidate the women.' Haredi women also participated in the bullying.

'I was wearing jeans and a long sleeved T-shirt and as I was getting on the bus someone told me I couldn't get on the bus like that,' said Iris Yoffe who was travelling from Jerusalem to her parents' home in the northern city of Haifa. 'I ignored him and paid the driver.' But then, said Yoffe, two women blocked her way and told her to get off. 'When I refused they started yelling at me.'

According to Friedman, the growing intolerance is only likely to worsen. 'They've built an imaginary idealistic world where everyone is pious.' Increasingly, Jewish women in Jerusalem are required to conform to that vision.

There Is No Jewish History

Tel Aviv University historian, Professor Shlomo Sand, opens his remarkable study of Jewish nationalism quoting Karl W. Deutsch:

A nation is a group of people united by a common mistake regarding its origin and a collective hostility towards its neighbours” [1]

As simple or even simplistic as it may sound, the quote above eloquently summarises the figment of reality entangled with modern Jewish nationalism and especially within the concept of Jewish identity. It obviously points the finger at the collective mistake Jews tend to make whenever referring to their ‘illusionary collective past’ and ‘collective origin’. Yet, in the same breath, Deutsch’s reading of nationalism throws light upon the hostility that is unfortunately coupled with almost every Jewish group towards its surrounding reality, whether it is human or takes the shape of land. While the brutality of the Israelis towards the Palestinians has already become rather common knowledge, the rough treatment Israelis reserve for their ‘promised soil’ and landscape is just starting to reveal itself. The ecological disaster the Israelis are going to leave behind them will be the cause of suffering for many generations to come. Leave aside the megalomaniac wall that shreds the Holy land into enclaves of depravation and starvation, Israel has managed to pollute its main rivers and streams with nuclear and chemical waste.

“When And How the Jewish People Was Invented” is a very serious study written by Professor Shlomo Sand, an Israeli historian. It is the most serious study of Jewish nationalism and by far, the most courageous elaboration on the Jewish historical narrative.

In his book, Sand manages to prove beyond any reasonable doubt that the Jewish people never existed as a 'nation-race', they never shared a common origin. Instead they are a colourful mix of groups that at various stages in history adopted the Jewish religion.

In case you follow Sand’s line of thinking and happen to ask yourself, “when was the Jewish People invented?” Sand’s answer is rather simple. “At a certain stage in the 19th century, intellectuals of Jewish origin in Germany, influenced by the folk character of German nationalism, took upon themselves the task of inventing a people ‘retrospectively,’ out of a thirst to create a modern Jewish people.” [2]
Accordingly, the ‘Jewish people’ is a ‘made up’ notion consisting of a fictional and imaginary past with very little to back it up forensically, historically or textually. Furthermore, Sand - who elaborated on early sources of antiquity - comes to the conclusion that Jewish exile is also a myth, and that the present-day Palestinians are far more likely to be the descendants of the ancient Semitic people in Judea/Canaan than the current predominantly Khazarian-origin Ashkenazi crowd to which he himself admittedly belongs.Khalid Amayreh and many others regard as the “Nazis of our time”.Astonishingly enough, in spite of the fact that Sand manages to dismantle the notion of ‘Jewish people’, crush the notion of ‘Jewish collective past’ and ridicule the Jewish chauvinist national impetus, his book is a best seller in Israel. This fact alone may suggest that those who call themselves ‘people of the book’ are now starting to learn about the misleading and devastating philosophies and ideologies that made them into what Khalid Amayreh and many others regard as the “Nazis of our time”.

Hitler Won After All

Rather often when asking a ‘secular’ ‘cosmopolitan’ Jew what it is that makes him into a Jew, a shallow overwhelmingly chewed answer would be thrown back at you: “It is Hitler who made me into a Jew”. Though the ‘cosmopolitan’ Jew, being an internationalist, would dismiss other people’s national inclinations, he insists upon maintaining his own right to ‘self determination’. However, it is not really he himself who stands at the core of this unique demand for national orientation, it is actually the devil, master-monster anti-Semite, namely Hitler. Apparently, the cosmopolitan Jew celebrates his nationalist entitlement as long as Hitler is there to be blamed.

As far as the secular cosmopolitan Jew is concerned, Hitler won after all. Sand manages to enhance this paradox. Insightfully he suggests that “while in the 19th century referring to Jews as an ‘alien racial identity’ would mark one as an anti-Semite, in the Jewish State this very philosophy is embedded mentally and intellectually” [3]. In Israel Jews celebrate their differentiation and unique conditions. Furthermore, says Sand, “There were times in Europe when one would be labelled as an anti-Semite for claiming that all Jews belong to a nation of an alien type. Nowadays, claiming that Jews have never been and still aren’t people or a nation, would tag one as a Jew hater”. [4] It is indeed pretty puzzling that the only people who managed to maintain and sustain a racially orientated, expansionist and genocidal national identity that is not at all different from Nazi ethnic ideology are the Jews who were, amongst others, the leading targeted victims of the Nazi ideology and practice.

Nationalism In General and Jewish Nationalism In Particular
Louis-Ferdinand Celine mentioned that in the time of the Middle Ages in the moments between major wars, knights would charge a very high price for their readiness to die in the name of their kingdoms, in the 20th century youngsters have rushed to die en masse without demanding a thing in return. In order to understand this mass consciousness shift we need an eloquent methodical model that would allow us to understand what nationalism is all about.

Like Karl Deutsch, Sand regards nationality as a phantasmic narrative. It is an established fact that anthropological and historical studies of the origins of different so-called ‘people’ and ‘nations’ lead towards the embarrassing crumbling of every ethnicity and ethnic identity. Hence, it is rather interesting to find out that Jews tend to take their own ethnic myth very seriously. The explanation may be simple, as Benjamin Beit Halachmi spotted years ago. Zionism was there to transform the Bible from a spiritual text into a ‘land registry’. For that matter, the truth of the Bible or any other element of Jewish historical narrative has very little relevance as long as it doesn’t interfere with the Jewish national political cause or practice.

One could also surmise that the lack of clear ethnic origin doesn’t stop people from feeling an ethnic or national belonging. The fact that Jews are far from being what one can label as a People and that the Bible has very little historical truth in it, doesn’t really stop generations of Israelis and Jews from identifying themselves with King David or Terminator Samson. Evidently, the lack of an unambiguous ethnic origin doesn’t stop people from seeing themselves as part of a people. Similarly, it wouldn’t stop the nationalist Jew from feeling that he belongs to some greater abstract collective.

There Is No Jewish History
It is an established fact that not a single Jewish history text had been written between the 1st century and early 19th century. The fact that Judaism is based on a religious historical myth may have something to do with it. An adequate scrutiny of the Jewish past was never a primary concern within the Rabbinical tradition. One of the reasons is probably the lack of a need of such a methodical effort. For the Jew who lived during ancient times and the Middle Ages, there was enough in the Bible to answer most relevant questions having to do with day-to-day life, Jewish meaning and fate. As Shlomo Sand puts it, “a secular chronological time was foreign to the ‘Diaspora time’ that was shaped by the anticipation for the coming of the Messiah".

However, in the light of German secularisation, urbanisation and emancipation and due to the decreasing authority of the Rabbinical leaders, an emerging need of an alternative cause rose amongst the awakening Jewish intellectuals. The emancipated Jew wondered who he was, where he come from. He also started to speculate what his role might be within the rapidly opening European society.

In 1820 the German Jewish historian Isaak Markus Jost (1793-1860) published the first serious historical work on Jews, namely “The History of the Israelites”. Jost avoided the Biblical time, he preferred to start his journey with the Judea Kingdom, he also compiled an historical narrative of different Jewish communities around the world. Jost realised that the Jews of his time did not form an ethnic continuum. He grasped that Israelites from place to place were rather different. Hence, he thought there was nothing in the world that should stop Jews from total assimilation. Jost believed that within the spirit of enlightenment, both the Germans and the Jews would turn their back to the oppressive religious institution and would form a healthy nation based on a growing geographically orientated sense of belonging.

Though Jost was aware of the evolvement of European nationalism, his Jewish followers were rather unhappy with his liberal optimistic reading of the Jewish future. “

From historian Heinrich Graetz on, Jewish historians began to draw the history of Judaism as the history of a nation that had been a ‘kingdom’, expelled into ‘exile’, became a wandering people and ultimately turned around and went back to its birthplace.” [9]

For the late Moses Hess, it was a racial struggle rather than a class struggle that would define the shape of Europe. Accordingly, suggests Hess, Jews better return and reflect on their cultural heritage and ethnic origin. For Hess, the conflict between Jews and Gentiles was the product of racial differentiation, hence, unavoidable.
The ideological path from Hess’s pseudo scientific racist orientation to Zionist historicism is rather obvious. If Jews are indeed an alien racial entity (as Hess, Jabotinsky and others believed), they better look for their natural homeland, and this homeland is no other than Eretz Yizrael. Cleary, Hess’s assumption regarding a racial continuum wasn’t scientifically approved. In order to maintain the emerging phantasmic narrative, an orchestrated denial mechanism had to be erected just to make sure that some embarrassing facts wouldn’t interfere with the emerging national creation.

Sand suggests that the denial mechanism was rather orchestrated and very well thought out. The Hebrew University decision in the 1930’s to split Jewish History and General History into two distinct departments was far more than just a matter of convenience. The logos behind the split is a glimpse into Jewish self-realisation. In the eyes of Jewish academics, the Jewish condition and Jewish psyche were unique and should be studied separately. Apparently, even within Jewish academia, a supreme status is reserved for the Jews, their history and their self-perception. As Sand insightfully unveils, within the Jewish Studies departments the researcher is scattering between the mythological and the scientific while the myth maintains its primacy. Yet, it often gets into a stalling dilemma by the ‘small devious facts’.

The New Israelite, the Bible and Archaeology
In Palestine, the new Jews and later the Israelis were determined to recruit the Old Testament and to transform it into the amalgamate code of the future Jew. The ‘nationalisation’ of the Bible was there to plant in young Jews the idea that they are the direct followers of their great ancient ancestors. Bearing in mind the fact that nationalisation was largely a secular movement, the Bible was stripped of its spiritual and religious meaning. Instead, it was viewed as an historical text describing a real chain of events in the past. The Jews who had now managed to kill their God learned to believe in themselves. Massada, Samson and Bar Kochva became suicidal master narratives. In the light of their heroic ancestors, Jews learned to love themselves as much as they hate others, except that this time they possessed the military might to inflict real pain on their neighbours. More concerning was the fact that instead of a supernatural entity - namely God - who command them to invade the land and execute a genocide and to rob their ‘promised land’ of its indigenous habitants, within their national revival project it was them as themselves, Herzl, Jabotinsky, Weitzman, Ben Gurion, Sharon, Peres, Barak who decided to expel, destroy and kill. Instead of God, it was then the Jews killing in the name of Jewish people. They did it while Jewish symbols decorate their planes and tanks. They followed commands that where given in the newly restored language of their ancestors.

Surprisingly enough, Sand who is no doubt a striking scholar, fails to mention that the Zionist hijacking of the Bible was in fact a desperate Jewish answer to German Early Romanticism. However, as much as German philosophers, poets, architects and artists were ideologically and aesthetically excited about pre-Socratic Greece, they knew very well that they were not exactly Hellenism’s sons and daughters. The nationalist Jew took it one step further, he bound oneself into a phantasmic blood chain with his mythical ancestors, not before long he restored their ancient language. Rather than a sacred tongue, Hebrew had become a spoken language. German Early Romanticist never went that far.

German intellectuals during the 19th century were also fully aware of the distinction between Athens and Jerusalem. For them, Athens stood for universal, the epic chapter of humanity and humanism. Jerusalem was, on the contrary, the grand chapter of tribal barbarism. Jerusalem was a representation of the banal, non-universal, monotheistic merciless God, the one who kills the elder and the infant. The Germanic Early Romantic era left us with Hegel, Nietzsche, Fichte and Heidegger and a just a few Jewish self-haters, leading amongst them, Otto Weininger. The Jerusalemite left us with not a single master ideological thinker. Some German Jewish second-rate scholars tried to preach Jerusalem in the Germanic exedra, amongst them were Herman Cohen, Franz Rosenzveig and Ernst Bloch. They obviously failed to notice that it was the traces of Jerusalem in Christianity, which German Early Romanticists despised.

In their effort to resurrect ‘Jerusalem’, archaeology was recruited to provide the Zionist epos with its necessary ‘scientific’ ground. Archaeology was there to unify the Biblical time with the moment of revival. Probably the most astonishing moment of this bizarre trend was the 1982 ‘military burial ceremony’ of the bones of Shimon Bar Kochva, a Jew rebel who died 2000 years earlier. Executed by the chief military Rabbi, a televised military burial was given to some sporadic bones found in a cave near the Dead Sea. In practice suspected remains of a 1st century Jew rebel was treated as an IDF casualty. Clearly, archaeology had a national role, it was recruited to cement the past and the present while leaving the Galut out.

Astonishingly enough, it didn’t take long before things turned the other way around. As archaeological research become more and more independent of the Zionist dogma, the embarrassing truth filtered out. It would be impossible to ground the truthfulness of the Biblical tale on forensic facts. If anything, archaeology refutes the historicity of the Biblical plot. Excavation revealed the embarrassing fact. The Bible is a collection of innovative fictitious literature.

As Sand points out, the Early Biblical story is soaked with Philistines, Aramaeans and camels. Embarrassingly enough, as far as excavations are there to enlighten us, Philistine didn’t appear in the region before the 12th century BC, the Aramaeans appears a century later and camels didn’t show their cheerful faces before the 8th century. These scientific facts lead Zionist researchers into some severe confusion. However, for non-Jewish scholars such as Thomas Thompson, it was rather clear that the Biblical is a “late collection of innovative literature written by a gifted theologian.” [10] The Bible appears to be an ideological text that was there to serve a social and political cause.Embarrassingly enough, not much was found in Sinai to prove the story of the legendary Egyptian Exodus, seemingly 3 million Hebraic men, women and children were marching in the desert for 40 years without leaving a thing behind. Not even a single matzo ball, very non-Jewish one may say.

The story of the Biblical resettlement and the genocide of the Canaanite which the contemporary Israelite imitates to such success is another myth. Jericho, the guarded city that was flattened to the sounds of horns and almighty supernatural intervention was just a tiny village during the 13th century BC.

As much as Israel regards itself as the resurrection of the monumental Kingdom of David and Salomon, excavation that took place in the Old City of Jerusalem in the 1970’s revealed that David’s kingdom was no more than a tiny tribal setting. Evidence that was referred by Yigal Yadin to King Solomon had been refuted later by forensic tests made with Carbon 14. The discomforting fact has been scientifically established. The Bible is a fictional tale, and not much there can ground any glorifying existence of Hebraic people in Palestine at any stage.

Who invented the Jews?
Quite early on in his text, Sand raises the crucial and probably the most relevant questions. Who are the Jews? Where did they come from? How is it that in different historical periods they appear in some very different and remote places?

Though most contemporary Jews are utterly convinced that their ancestors are the Biblical Israelites who happened to be exiled brutally by the Romans, truth must be said. Contemporary Jews have nothing to do with ancient Israelites, who have never been sent to exile because such an expulsion has never taken place. The Roman Exile is just another Jewish myth.

“I started looking in research studies about the exile from the land” says Sand in an Haaretz interview [11], “but to my astonishment I discovered that it has no literature. The reason is that no one exiled the people of the country. The Romans did not exile peoples and they could not have done so even if they had wanted to. They did not have trains and trucks to deport entire populations. That kind of logistics did not exist until the 20th century. From this, in effect, the whole book was born: in the realization that Judaic society was not dispersed and was not exiled.”

Indeed, in the light of Sand’s simple insight, the idea of Jewish exile is amusing. The thought of Roman Imperial navy was working 24/7 schlepping Moishe’le and Yanka’le to Cordova and Toledo may help Jews to feel important as well as schleppable, but common sense would suggest that the Roman armada had far more important things to do.

However, far more interesting is the logical outcome: If the people of Israel were not expelled, then the real descendants of the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Judah must be the Palestinians.

“No population remains pure over a period of thousands of years” says Sand. [12] “But the chances that the Palestinians are descendants of the ancient Judaic people are much greater than the chances that you or I are its descendents. The first Zionists, up until the Arab Revolt [1936-9], knew that there had been no exiling, and that the Palestinians were descended from the inhabitants of the land. They knew that farmers don’t leave until they are expelled. Even Yitzhak Ben-Zvi, the second president of the State of Israel, wrote in 1929 that, ‘the vast majority of the peasant farmers do not have their origins in the Arab conquerors, but rather, before then, in the Jewish farmers who were numerous and a majority in the building of the land.’”

In his book Sand takes it further and suggests that until the First Arab Uprising (1929) the so-called leftist Zionist leaders tended to believe that the Palestinian peasants who are actually ‘Jews by origin’ would assimilate within the emerging Hebraic culture and would eventually join the Zionist movement. Ber Borochov believed that “a falach (Palestinian Peasant), dresses as a Jew, and behaves as a working class Jew, won’t be at all different from the Jew”. This very idea reappeared in Ben Gurion’s and Ben-Zvi’s text in 1918. Both Zionist leaders realised that Palestinian culture was soaked with Biblical traces, linguistically, as well as geographically (names of villages, towns, rivers and mountains). Both Ben Gurion and Ben-Zvi regarded, at least at that early stage, the indigenous Palestinians as ethnic relatives who were holding close to the land and potential brothers. They as well regarded Islam as a friendly ‘democratic religion’. Clearly, after 1936 both Ben-Zvi and Ben Gurion toned down their ‘multicultural’ enthusiasm. As far as Ben Gurion is concerned, ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians seemed to be far more appealing.

One may wonder, if the Palestinians are the real Jews, who are those who insist upon calling themselves Jews?

Sand’s answer is rather simple, yet it makes a lot of sense. “The people did not spread, but the Jewish religion spread. Judaism was a converting religion. Contrary to popular opinion, in early Judaism there was a great thirst to convert others.” [13]

Clearly, monotheist religions, being less tolerant than polytheist ones have within them an expanding impetus. Judaic expansionism in its early days was not just similar to Christianity but it was Judaic expansionism that planted the ‘spreading out’ seeds in early Christian thought and practice.

“The Hasmoneans,” says Sand, [14] “were the first to begin to produce large numbers of Jews through mass conversion, under the influence of Hellenism. It was this tradition of conversions that prepared the ground for the subsequent, widespread dissemination of Christianity. After the victory of Christianity in the 4th century, the momentum of conversion was stopped in the Christian world, and there was a steep drop in the number of Jews. Presumably many of the Jews who appeared around the Mediterranean became Christians. But then Judaism started to permeate other regions - pagan regions, for example, such as Yemen and North Africa. Had Judaism not continued to advance at that stage and had it not continued to convert people in the pagan world, we would have remained a completely marginal religion, if we survived at all.”

The Jews of Spain, whom we believed to be blood related to the Early Israelites seem to be converted Berbers. “I asked myself,” says Sand, “how such large Jewish communities appeared in Spain. And then I saw that Tariq ibn Ziyad, the supreme commander of the Muslims who conquered Spain, was a Berber, and most of his soldiers were Berbers. Dahia al-Kahina’s Jewish Berber Kingdom had been defeated only 15 years earlier. And the truth is there are a number of Christian sources that say many of the conquerors of Spain were Jewish converts. The deep-rooted source of the large Jewish community in Spain was those Berber soldiers who converted to Judaism.”

As one would expect, Sand approves the largely accepted assumption that the Judaicised Khazars constituted the main origins of the Jewish communities in Eastern Europe, which he calls the Yiddish Nation. When asked how come they happen to speak Yiddish, which is largely regarded as a German medieval dialect, he answers, “the Jews were a class of people dependent on the German bourgeoisie in the east, and thus they adopted German words.”

In his book Sand manages to produce a detailed account of the Khazarian saga in Jewish history. He explains what lead the Khazarian kingdom towards conversion. Bearing in mind that Jewish nationalism is, for the most part, lead by a Khazarian elite, we may have to expand our intimate knowledge of this very unique yet influential political group. The translation of Sand’s work into foreign languages is an immediate must. (It is forthcoming in French, as reported in Are the Jews an invented people?, by Eric Rouleau).

III - Jewish "Genies" Approve of the Koran

When Mohammed returned from Taif to Mecca, he went through Nakhla, and there he received – guess what! – a “Delegation of Genies”. And of Jewish genies, for they were the genies that followed Moses:

“Mohammed was returning – [from Taif] – to Mecca, and stayed some time in Nakhla, when a Delegation of Genies arrived to hear the Koran. They were Mussa’s (Moses’s) followers and it was about them that the following verses of Surah Al-Ahkaf were revealed” (Chap. 46, verses 29-32 Aminuddin Mohamad, op. cit. pp118-119).

What can be understood by “Genies” in this text?

Were they spirits?

Were they similar to Aladdin’s genie of the lamp?

Not likely, for it says that they were “genies” that followed Moses.

So, it is more appropriate to understand these “Genies”, followers of Moses, as human beings, and very competent ones, that followed Moses’ doctrine, that is, that they were Jewish rabbi that came to hear Mohammed and his revelation. After hearing Mohammed, they went back to their people – the Jews – to tell them what they had heard.

And after hearing the Koran being recited, what did these Jewish “Genies” conclude and what did they tell their people?

They concluded that they should invite tell the Jewish people to follow Mohammed:

“29. And when We inclined toward thee (Muhammad) certain of the jinn, who wished to hear the Qur'an and, when they were in its presence, said: Give ear! And, when it was finished, turned back to their people, warning.”

“30 They said: O our people! Lo! we have heard a scripture which hath been revealed after Moses, confirming that which was before it, guiding unto the truth and a right road.”

"31 O our people! respond to Allah's summoner and believe in Him. He will forgive you some of your sins and guard you from a painful doom.”

“32. And whose respondeth not to Allah's summoner he can nowise escape in the earth, and he hath no protecting friends instead of Him. Such are in error manifest.” (Koran, Surah Alahcaaf – The Dunes, Surah 46:29-32).

The result of Mohammed’s examination by the “genies” of Israel – the Masters of Israel, the Rabbi – was approval, with the statement that the Koran confirmed the Torah.

And the rabbi ordered the Arab Jews to accept Mohammed as the Messiah promised by God, and to obey him.

All this, according to Aminuddin Mohamad is in the Koran, which is very interesting.

Aminuddin Mohamad warns that Surah 17 that talks about the Miraj that already prepared the Koraishite for the future departure of Mohammed to the city of Yaçrib, today’s Medina:

Miraj was like a warning to the Koraishite that the time of persecution was about to end and that it was high time for the Prophet to emigrate and to the place he goes [sic], will deal with the Israelites. This is why the “Al-Isra” chapter (revealed in Mecca) already talked of Israelites, while in Mecca there were no Israelites, only in Medina there were a few tribes” (Aminuddin Mohamad, op. cit., p. 132. Our bold).

In 622, the Hijrah, or immigration – the Exodus – of Mohammed and his followers from Mecca to Yatreb took place, and this is why the city began to be called Medina, or the Prophet’s city.

In this city and region lived the tribe of the Ansar.

But we will let the inconspicuous Aminuddin Mohamad talk:

“when the Auss and Khazrij [Arab groups of the Ansar tribe] arrived in Yaçrib, this area was heavily influenced by the Jews, since most of the population was illiterate” (…)

"Even though idolatrous, the Ansar, since they had lived among the Jews in Medina (Yaçrib), they had a certain idea about the Prophecy and the sacred books. And even though they were political rivals of the Jews, they recognized their religious virtue. The Jews had established Theology schools in Yaçrib, called Baltul-Madaris, where they taught the Torah.

“The Ansar were illiterate and this is why they were impressed by the theological superiority of the Jews. If the Ansar children’s survival was threatened for whatever reason, they promised that “if the child survived, they would convert him to Judaism.” Like the Jews, in general, the Ansar also believed that the last Prophet was about to appear” (Aminuddin Mohamad, op. cit., p. 133. Our bold).

So, isn’t it unbelievable?

The Jews had even established theology schools in Yaçrib! And the Ansar, even being illiterate, had certain knowledge of the sacred Books, and the book is the Torah, that is the Pentateuch.

Evidently, Aminuddin Mohamad’s Portuguese writing leaves much to be desired: the author meant that the Jews from Yatreb had established theology schools in this city, and that even the illiterate Ansar took an interest in the sacred books – the Torah and the Talmud, maybe – that is in the Jewish religion, and even promised that if their sickly children, if cured, would be converted to Judaism.

But: it is said that the Yatreb Jews were waiting for the last Prophet.

Certainly, these Jews of Medina were awaiting the arrival of the Messiah, for very soon.

So, great was the power and influence of the Jews in Yatreb, the city where Mohammed seeked refuge.

Very interesting.

Why were there so many Jews in Yaçrib?

Aminnudin provides several political reasons for this and ends by saying:

“Besides political motives in the arrival of Jews to Yaçrib, there were also religious motives; through the Torah, the Jewish theologians knew that the last Prophet would appear in Yaçrib. So the Jews settled there, to have the honor of following him, or his descendents.”

“When Mohammed appeared as the last Prophet, Banu Quraiza said that his theologians had settled in Yaçrib due to these predictions.

“The Israelites had progressed a great deal and had expanded their influence to the areas around Yaçrib. They had their own government, wealth was in their hands, and the population grew and scattered all over the place and their best known centers were ‘Khebar’, ‘Wadi Qura’ and ‘Timar’. (Aminuddin Mohamad, op. cit., p. 134. Our bold, in complete amazement!!).

So, were the Medina Jews awaiting the Messiah – the last Prophet – and they identified him as Mohammed?

And so, in Medina, where Mohammed fled to, the Jews had theology schools where they taught the Torah, and through the Torah they had calculated that the Messiah was coming? And he would arrive in Medina!

What cabalistic calculations were these?

So the Jews had the power, the wealth, and the government in Yatreb and its surroundings, and practically dominated the Ansar tribe, and it was precisely to that place the Mohammed fled?

And so, why is it that in Western history books there is nothing like what this most interesting Arab historian, Aminuddin Mohamad, tells us in such nonchalance?

If what Aminuddin Mohamad tells us, according to the Arab traditions, is true, why are Western historians silent about them?

I'm not trying to step on any toes here on your great thread skullnboner but I thought I just share this tid-bit.

Quote:
Anti-Semitic attacks rising, UK watchdog reports

" The attack on Bookatz -- a Jew who wears a skullcap and lives in a particularly Jewish neighborhood of London -- is one of more than 250 assaults on Jewish targets in the United Kingdom since the beginning of the year, according to the Community Security Trust, a non-governmental organization which monitors anti-Semitism in Britain.

The group recorded more than 200 incidents in the month of January alone, the highest monthly total it has seen since it began keeping records in 1984...

By all means Freethinka...step on toes if you like, but beware  Step lightly...ha ha ha! I will come back to your post later to examine it. 'Anti-Semitism' again...lol! Perhaps, we should start a stream on 'Anti-gentilism'

Yeah, I knew you wouldn't really mind.

I would like to see some history of Judaism here - how it all began. Some important historical time periods & where Judaism is today, their numbers etc. Most everybody has heard of "the jews" but few know much about their history from an objective view point. I'll leave all that up to you ...

Well I will try my best Freethinka, but it won't be easy, considering the vapid framework covered by 'Babble history'. However, it is just as important as when, how it developed as to what it is ideologically and in practise.

First off, two things have to be cleared up. There were no such people called "Jews" in the Roman period, past the conversion of the Khazars, into the 18th century. The usage of the term 'Jew' was a rather quick morphing of the original name of the inhabitants of Iudea into a term also given the mistaken impression of having 3 definitive ideas rolled into one. So we have today this singular term which implies that the religon, the Tribal/National status and historical descent is all one and taken at face value as such. Neither of them are any truer than the word "Jew" itself.

Secondarily, there was no religon called 'Judaism' until recent times either. It morphed from one name to another (while still retaining it's esscence) into modern times to the misleading term Judaism. What legitimate history we do have is that the greater majority of those religous adherents did not ever live in Judea, because it was a religon by another name having little to do with Judea and/or real history of that land.

We have today become so conditioned to the use of the words "Jew", "Jewish", "Jewry" and the connotations associated with them, that it is difficult for people to get past it! So we read some history about a Kingdom of "Jews" in Khazaria and we are misled by the notion that this term was in usage then as we have it today. As Shlomo Sand says: "The Jewish people is an invention", not just in history but in the very word-descriptions used today to describe such a people. Sand is himself caught up in the usage of it.

So I have to ask myself, when did this religon arise in it's earliest form, peicemeal most likely and why in the region of Judea. We all know the mythological foundations of it were borrowed and syncretised into a monotheistic form and later given historical validity. We know or should know that the City of Jerusalem was founded by Hittites and Amorites, so why should a rabble of nomads of a different stripe claim it as their own sacred site? I suspect this also is invention.

I really suspect there is very little real history for the sectarian takeover of the land the Romans called Judea, before their issuance out of Babylon (and which was the 'Vatican', the Talmudic Academic religious center of the 'Rabbinates' for far over a millenia). Far from what most people think, the cult of 'Judaism', as we call it today, was a proselytising one. The final proof of it should be in the conversion of a large number of people in the Khazarian Empire by a similar edict to that of Constantine for Christianity.

The origins and nature of the sect is still mysterious to me, but it had to be formed in such a manner capable of the kind of conditioning that is possible under the correct circumstances. The stars know how easy it appears to be today for people to be buffooned into accepting pure bullshit as Truth (I have Mormonism in mind for example, but we lack no examples of that sort of conditioning and fraud today!).

For me Yaweh and his priest/prophets are very little different from Allah and his crowd. In fact, I suspect that early true-form Yahwism was extremely like that of modern Mulsims. I am sure Acharya or you will correct me if and where I may be wrong in this perception. The first post on this stream is an indication of the true face of primitive so-called 'Judaism'. However, in no way are the less 'Orthodox' (nut-jobs) more spiritually advanced.

The Third post here about the 'Jewish' connection to the beginnings of the legend of Mohammed and the formation of another bandit cult might infer, if not directly posit, that Islam was an outgrowth of the Yawehistic (just exchanging Allah for Yaweh). The 'Judaic' may be less in number, but is far more sophisticated, experienced and older than that of the Moselims. They are of equitable danger to western society for the pincer movement on free societies that both 'Judaism' and 'Islam' represent.

I intend to point out the criminality of the Jewish religon as inculcated in it's people by their actions and the power their kindred weild in covering up and diverting attention away from such heinous crimes, individually and collectively, as a result of regimented conditioning from a religon that can only be described as criminally alien. You will get no argument from me about Islam as to it's criminal nature also. No amount of 'victimisation' whining is going to deter me from that effort, than it should for anyone exposing the crimes of Islam and Moselims. The Christian-retarded Amer-Euros are equally the fools of this religous criminality and it will be it's undoing also...all in the name of Zion(?)

While I am last person who can be regarded as in anyway knowledgable about this subject, let me just add some fuel to Rene's fire and maybe take the discussion forward

Till the mid 19th Century, there was no such religion called Hinduism either, till the Brits decided to take a census of the Indian people and tried to meddle with the personal laws. To the average Arab, even a muslim of Indian origin was a Hindu, who believed in the Koran. But then does it mean the philosophy and way of life, which go by the name of Hinduism today did not exist? Perhaps Judaism in its various forms also did exist way back.

Then again, lets see the reference to Jews in the Indian literature. A tribe/class of people called Abhiras are mentioned often whose description tally with the general description of the Hebrews. While the Vedic lterature generally find some good and respectable qualities in all non-Bharatha peoples, they seem to reserve the most derogatory terms for these people. 'Wandering thieves', 'dirty cow killers', 'lawless hordes' etc are the usual terms used to describe the Abhiras. These peoples were generally confined to outside the village/city limits and were clearly treated as unwanted.

On being goaded by Israel Shamir, (Not one of Acharya's favourites :D ), I read a bit of the Bible an year back and it threw up quite a few interesting bits of info to me and also threw a little bit of light on the psychology of the religion in the OT. I must say I could not help feeling a bit sorry for the Hebrews.

The first thing that I found was that the people of OT were resigned to a lowly life. One particular instance I would like to allude to is the story of Joseph (correct the name if I am wrong), who gets dumped in a well by his brothers and surfaces in Egypt as a rich man. When he invites them for lunch the brothers intially mistake him for an Egyptian and are surprised that he has condescended to share the table with them, which under normal times would be an abomination or some such thing. This shows that the hebrews themselves were accustomed to being treated as dirt. Throughout the OT, I also found an underlying resentment for prosperity enjoyed by others.

This deprivation perhaps explains the growth of this religion and its peculiar ideas. Lets be honest. Today it is easy for me to say that my grandpa was so smart that he could do astronomical and trigonometric calculations five thousand years ago. But then grandpa lived in a land full of mighty rivers and greenery and he had the time and luxury to do so which the Abhira didn't have. The hebrew was more worried about finding his next glass of water and trigonometry would have been the last subject on his mind. He was boxed on three sides by Egyptians, Greeks and Indians, all towering civilizations blessed by natural resources and kept away by all.

Initially the hebrew would have believed in the same god that the others believed in and thought that one day he will also enjoy good times. But when generation after generation, things didn't change, his mind would have naturally come up with a defence mechanism to explain/reduce the pain. He would have then invented a new god, who is meant only for the Jew. The troubles that he is going through presently is only as a result of a past sin, that would get nullified once the new god sends his messenger to declare that all is well that ends well and he will get the best of the world that nobody else is going to get. An all powerful god who is superior to all the other gods who will bestow his kindness and goodies one day only on the jew. Anybody who didn't believe in this god did not deserve to live etc etc. Look at it this way and you would understand the concept of a Promised Land, the Chosen people, the jealous god etc.

Hello Balu! I know you have brought up the Abhiras before and they could represent the Hebrews (by similar word-association), or they could represent Gypsies by your description. However, the people who formed the cult or sect of Yahweh with it's Torah were only a small subsection of the Hebrews, themselves, a subsection of those people generally called Canaanites, where the lingua-franca among the natives was of common origin. The language is arbitrarily called 'Semitic', another misperception that must be cleared up.

Sem or Shem is another 'babblical' borrowed word made into a fictional character from whence it assumed (without any evidence) the majority inhabitants of 'Canaan' were descended.

It is not even in my best perception that the civilisations formed in that region were of the native species originally. In other words, a foreign people (with their own language, learning & culture) who dominated the more numerous and much more primitive peope of the region left behind their learning and histories adopted and adapted to the whims of the native cultures after millenium of acculturation, mixed-cooperation (a level of assimilations and inter-marriages) together with frequent conflict and resistance to their foreign overlords by enough of the native populatin. Yet, they benefited from the knowledge and advancements brought to them, including the art of writing.

It is from these people that the later so-called 'semites' adopted and adapted in a distorted form (deliberate or otherwise) histories of a higher civilisation, which the latter were finally forced to flee as a result of the cruel wars raging against them with the benefits of the knowledge obtained and the disatisfied opportunistic elements of the misgenated offspring of these unions participating in that dissolution in deference to the native culture. Late Babylonia became 'semitised' after 6 centuries of perptetual war against the a 'non-semtic' people. Such that Late Babylonia reverted to possesion of the semi-mixed and pure natives of that land described as Canaan.

The name Canaan may not be even a representative original name for the native inhabitants only partly assimilated to the best aquisitions of their former overlords cultural gifts. Never-the-less, there was enough mingling, that even factions that capitulated to 'Semitic' domanance in an overturning still existed and on the surface at least capitulated to the new dominant culture in order to survice. These early foreigners and long time rulers over the reigon that remained after 600 yrs of constant war continued to exist by adoption of the new ruling powers criteria in face value at least.

The overall point is that what was once 'non-semtic' had largely disappeard from their midst with minor exceptions and the learned 'semites' used their previous occupiers legends, history and myths, tampering with such to form a unique identity for themselves. It was in this period, that the develovement of the 'babble' was created out of the literal and legendary records f the 'Sumerian, early Babylonian such in such a way as to enhance and distort the true record of history in the regions to suit their own agendas.

The people called "Sumerians" were Indo-Aryans and their records obtained by the uprising "non-Aryans" was used to create a fiction for a people that was deliberately self-serving. I do suspect this perversion began in that period over the 600 yrs. and had centered itself in Babylon from whence the people called Judeans and Yahwists emerged.

I will finish this later and adress your other observations later, but you might be interested in this (you may have seen it and posted it here already): http://www.veda.harekrsna.cz/connections/Hebrews-and-Vedic-Brahmins.php

Mark Twain on the Jews

Rene provoked me to reproduce quotes from an article by Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens, and I thought it should be memorialized here. Twain is hilarious, claiming that he personally knows more than 25 million Jews in the U.S.

Mark Twain, "Concerning the Jews," Harper's Monthly Magazine, XCIX, June-September 1899, pp. 532-534:

"...I am convinced that the persecution of the Jew is not in any large degree due to religious prejudice.

"No, the Jew is a money-getter; and in getting his money he is a very serious obstruction to less capable neighbors who are on the same quest. I think that that is the trouble. In estimating worldly values the Jew is not shallow, but deep. With precocious wisdom he found out in the morning of time that some men worship rank, some worship God, and that over these ideals they dispute and cannot unite--but that they all worship money; so he has made it the end and aim of his life to get it. He was at it in Egypt thirty-six centuries ago; he was at it in Rome when that Christian got persecute by mistake for him; he has been at it ever since. The cost to him has been heavy; his success has made the whole human race his enemy...

"You will say that the Jew is everywhere numerically feeble....

"As to your numerical weakness. I mentioned some figures a while ago--500,000--as the Jewish population of Germany. I will add some more--6,000,000 in Russia. 5,000,000 in Austria, 250,000 in the United States. I take them from memory; I read them in the Cyclopaedia Britannica ten or twelve years ago....

"...When I read in the C.B. that the Jewish population of the United States was 250,000, I wrote the editor and explained to him that I was personally acquainted with more Jews than that in my country, and that his figures were without doubt a misprint for 25,000,000. I also added that I was personally acquainted with that many there... people told me that they had reason to suspect that for business reasons, many Jews whose dealings were mainly with the Christians did not report themselves as Jews in the census. It looks plausible; it looks plausible yet....

"...I am strongly of the opinion that we have an immense Jewish population in America. I am assured by men competent to speak that the Jews are exceedingly active in politics."

Hey! Someone asked me if Mark Twains (Clemens) was a Jew. I said I simply don't know, nor care. I know little about him, nor read his writing, although I was regaled with his wit and humor that made him famous. That's all I know about the guy really! Nor do I consider him of importance in a serious context in matters Jewish.

However, he couldn't possibly avoid the Jewish baneful influences in his life. Utlitmately, I don't take him serious at all! Remember, I was asked the question. I didn't initiate it. I am not familiar with his works, nor do I consider him relevant.

This is all very interesting stuff, but let's not leave the Vatican and the Jesuits out of this. Alberto Rivera had a lot to say before he got the Cup of Borgia. On the other hand, Catholicism was largely invented by Jewish mystics lol...

As for the Jesuits--see the Alumbrados and the Spanish Sephardic creation and membership of the first Jesuits under the crypto-jew Ignatius Loyala. Look up his history. He was from a wealth family of converted Jews and nearly got booted because of his association with the Alumbrados (which means Illuminated).

I would post link here, but people got to do their own research sometimes! You can find it, if you seek and look.
