This is my first post on Freethought Nation, so I thought I'd better know a little about what I'm saying (please don't test me).
Health and fitness have been an interest of mine over the years and I have kept fairly fit. In recent years my body started to give in to injury and ailments. I thought I was eating well and exercising regularly.
I had just moved out to Malaysia to work and things started to go wrong! OK, I had niggling pains here and there and thought it was just wear and tear. In addition, I started to suffer from infected sinus's which progressed to an infection on my chest. This was nearly a bi annual event. Then my knees gave in and had to have them operated on - nice to watch on the tv screen as the surgeon was at it. Months of Physio and exercising and I was still in pain.
Two things happened, I met a nutritionist and I met a knowledgeable Chiropractor.
The nutritionist I met 3 years ago and she put me on the road to enlightenment. I had been taking vitamins and minerals and Glucosamine, Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) and Chondroitin for my joints. Nothing was working. I started taking the correct doses of vitamins and minerals along with Omega 3 oils and anti oxidants. I felt the difference within 2 weeks. I saw the difference after about 6 weeks, just from different photographs that happened to be taken. It's 3 years on and I haven't had a cold or 'flu, I'm sleeping better, my hair is thicker and I've got a cold nose! Although my joints weren't creaking so much my knees were still suffering. NO infected sinus's since!!
The Chiropractor, a big Chinese guy, had me walk 5 metre's and back again and told me my feet were pronating inwards and tested me to see the severity and adjust with inserts in my shoes and trainers. I thought there was no way this was going to work. Within a couple of days I noticed a difference, particularly walking up and down steps.
This was a year ago. I was training in a gym on a regular basis but no running, just rowing and X trainer plus weights. I decided to try out the treadmill. 10 minutes to start with, the next week 15 and then up to 45 minutes. No pain. In February this year I started road running, as I used to run a lot to keep fit, and no pain. I entered, like an idiot, a 15KM race to be run in May. It's hot in Malaysia and where we ran there were loads of hills, the sort you definitely don't like. I didn't walk and was happy to finish half way through the field of about 2,500. That pleased me because I was over 60 years old and it's good for the morale to beat the young guys!
Conclusion: Take the correct amount of quality Vitamins and Minerals (we can't get it all in the food we eat) and if you have any aches and pains check the alignment of your joints. I take nothing for my joints now except Omega 3 oil.
