John the Baptist's attributes from the Catholic Encyclopedia online -

"saying that baptism was good, not so much to free one from certain sins [cf. St. Thomas, "Summ. Theol.", III, A. xxxviii, a. 2 and 3] as to purify the body, the soul being already cleansed from its defilements by justice " (Josephus, "Antiq.", XVIII, vii).

Would this relate to Anubis (John) being the God of mummification (Bodily purifying / preparation for eternity)?

***

John's head is removed then placed on a plate, to be presented to the royalty ... Could this be related to Anubis' role as embalmer / mummifier. In such a role would he not 'remove the head', ie remove the brain (including pineal gland!) through the nostrils.

I dont know a lot about the mummification procedure ... what was do with the brain? One imagines it was not simply discarded ... could it have been placed on a ceremonial plate and presented to someone / something? Could this role of brain removal explain Anubis' mysterious attribute of holding a stick with blooded cattle hide hanging from it??

***

He must increase, but I must decrease. He that cometh from above, is above all. He that is of the earth, of the earth he is, and of the earth he speaketh" ( John 3:27-36 ).

Could this relate to Anubis' role as the worker / preparer of the 'flesh', while the spirit of the person has gone on its journey? (Probably nonsense this one.)

'Nephthys, weary of being childless through her husband, took or maybe seduced Osiris to be a lover.' Found this on the internet. A direct parallel with Elizabeth being baron then concieving late.

***

So am I writing absolute rubbish, or could some of these ideas have substance??

Here's a good place to start concerning Jesus and John's birthdays:

If you haven't read through "Christ in Egypt" yet, then you may enjoy getting a copy and reading through some of the scholarship Acharya provides concerning the many links between John the Baptist and Anubis. I find them rather interesting myself.

As for issue of John's head being cut off in the allegory, it's pretty well established that we're looking at a reference to the constellation of Aquarius having it's head appearing below the horizon around August 29th as is discussed by Acharya in her works. Here's a link concerning the entire gospel stories allegorical structure and if you click on "John the Baptist's stars" in the month of January when Jesus' ministry begins you can see a few illustrations of the astrological meaning of John's conception, birth, and beheading:
