I've had an argument related to Zechariah 9:9, easter and stuff. Where did they get that idea of a king ridding a donkey from? To whom was it applied by the writer(s) of Zechariah? Is that an image related to some gods or ancient important characters, a motif?

Thanks. Michael.

Thanks for the question, Mihaita. You are asking about Zechariah 9:9:

Quote:
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on an ass, on a colt the foal of an ass.

This passage in the Old Testament is one of the "messianic scriptures" used as blueprints to create the mythical messiah, as at Matthew 21:5:

Quote:
"Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of an ass."

It's quite obvious the writers of the gospel story simply took passages from the Old Testament to create their fictional character, based on what they believed Jews were expecting and would accept.

Moreover, the motif of the savior riding the ass(es) is a mythical one and can be found in the story of Dionysus.

Quote:

I've written a bit about this motif in my book The Christ Conspiracy. Astrotheologically speaking, the motif represents the sun "riding the little asses" in the constellation of Cancer.

You can read more about the similarities between Dionysus and Jesus in my books and in this article:

Dionysus: Born of a Virgin on December 25th

Acharya, thank you a lot! That was the type of answer I expected. I guessed it was an ancient motif but I didn't know about Dionysus and related.

There are more than 300 so-called messianic prophecies, I found them on the net in a table. Each of them should be taken and debunked as you did above and put them debunked in a table, so that the true nature of the Bible be revealed and stupid people understand what's really going on.

You're welcome.

While I haven't done exactly as you have recommended - a good suggestion, of course - you can find a table of related interest in my book Who Was Jesus?

Quote:
Jesus as Fulfillment of Prophecy

In addition to various Old Testament characters serving to "prefigure" the person of Jesus Christ are the numerous Old Testament scriptures held up as "prophecies" of the messiah fulfilled in Christ. Over the centuries, in fact, since the story of Jesus began to be circulated, believers have appealed to these scriptures to demonstrate that Jesus was indeed the messiah. These prophetic scriptures number in the hundreds, depending on the apologetic text consulted, with upwards of 1,000 in some circles, the book of Psalms alone possessing almost 100 by some counts-all these have been cited as "fulfillment of prophecy" in the purported advent of Jesus Christ....
