I am currently in a heated debate as some of you know with kingdavid on the forum skeptic friends network about the proof from Zeitgeist. He has repeatedly said that there is no proof of these claims and I would like to prove it once and for all in front of everyone and be able to use the forum for future reference for those doubting Acharya's work that she put into Zeitgeist.

We started the debate, the kingdavid started throwing a hissy fit when teched started posting pictures of the djed pillar. lol So we had to restart the debate with different guidelines. These guidelines are that I gather a team, get our information about the following claims together and I will post it for our team. Then kingdavid's team gets to give their counter evidence, then back and forth.

I would like to know if anyone would like to join my team.

Here are the claims:

"Horus
1. Born on Dec 25th
2. Born of a virgin
3. Star in the East
4. Adored by 3 kings
5. Teacher at 12
6. Baptized/ministry at 30
7. 12 disciples
8. Performed miracles
9. "Lamb of God"/"The Light"
10. Crucified
11. Dead for 3 days
12. Resurrected"

Attis:
13. Born of a virgin
14. Born on Dec 25th
15. Crucified
16. Dead for 3 days
17. Resurrected

Krishna:
18. Born of a virgin
19. Star in the East
20. Performed miracles
21. Resurrected

Dionysus:
22. Born of a virgin
23. Born on Dec 25th
24. Performed miracles
25. Turned water into wine (not visible on the list, but the voice-over says it)
26. "King of Kings"
27. "Alpha and Omega"
28. "God's only begotten son" (not visible on the list, but the voice-over says it)
29. Resurrected

Mithra:
30. Born of a virgin
31. Born on Dec 25th
32. 12 disciples
33. Dead for 3 days
34. Resurrected
35. "The Truth"/"The Light" (not visible on the list, but the voice-over says it)
36. Sunday worship"

Here is what he will accept...

1) Versions of their stories in which we can read about them actually doing these things, provided that the stories are generally agreed-upon by scholars to be pre-Christian. This is the one I'd most like to see. If the deities are truly believed to have done these things, you would think there would be stories somewhere in which they do it.

2) Any information coming from scholarly sources who are not specifically trying to prove parallels to Jesus, for example:
a) General mythology books and websites, provided they have no Christ-myther agenda (sorry, I won't accept Wikipedia or similar forums, since there's no way to determine whether the individual doing the posting is a Christ-myther or not). If it's a book, I must be able to acquire it from my local library, or you can mail me the book or e-mail me copies of the pages in question. I won't spend my own money on it (this is to prevent someone from naming some impossible-to-find book and then calling foul on me for not going on a wild and expensive goose chase to get it - remember, I am asking YOU to provide the evidence.)
b) Scholars (Christian or not) who work for a university who agree that the parallels are valid.
c) Anything coming from a mainstream peer-reviewed journal.

3) Photographs of pre-Christian heiroglyphs showing them clearly doing these things (I've seen Christ-mythers claim such hieroglyphs exist for Horus, but every time I ask them to send them to me, I never hear from them again).

Overall, I expect any evidence you provide me with to be something that a reasonable, skeptical and unbiased person (say, someone who is neither a Christian nor a Christ-myther) would accept as convincing evidence that the deity in question was believed, in pre-Christian times, to have done those things. Simply quoting a Christ-myther, or quoting one Christ-myther who quotes another Christ-myther (and so on) obviously will not count. I am expecting evidence that clearly existed prior to and separate from Christ-mythers.

Then he adds this...

And some clarification:
I take the phrase "born of a virgin" to mean that the deity was born of a woman (human or humanoid, such as a goddess) who had yet to engage in sexual intercourse at the time of his birth.
I take the phrase "resurrected" to mean being brought back to life in the body in which he died (as opposed to being reincarnated or made into a complete spirit), and for it to have happened in this world (as opposed to the underworld or world of the gods). The same body, yet transformed, is acceptable, of course.
I take the phrase "baptized" to mean cleansed by water in a purification ritual with spiritual ramifications (cleansing of sins, making holy, accepting as a follower and/or promising eternal life).
I take the phrase "crucified" to mean being affixed (by nails, rope, crazy glue, etc.) to a tree or cross, and dying on that tree or cross. Being hung by the neck from a tree, or dying in the vicinity of a tree that they are not affixed to, does not equal crucifixion. Neither does being tied to a rock (sorry, Prometheus fans!)"

If you have ever visited kingdavid's website, you would see why I am doing this. It is not about the money but about the fact that he does not back up his counterclaims with any evidence, he uses the exact sources that he refuses to accept, he uses fairytale stories from various websites that are meant for general explanations. One of my conditions is that he put a link from his website to the skeptic friends website when we are done so that the people that go to his website will be able to see the real evidence and be able to judge for themselves.

As soon as I get all of this information together, I will post it on the forum. If you would like to join in the mean time just to look around, that would be great. The rules have not been listed yet on the forum for the debate. I think they will be as soon as I give the go ahead.

Any joiners?

Just for the fun of it? Hardly. Not my idea of a good time. Like I said before, just the thought of engaging this troll again makes my stomach turn. He has an obstinacy like no other.

Plus I have a few things to say about that list. I'll PM you.

Which list are you talking about Kingdavid8's or Acharya's? PM me too then, I'd like to read your thoughts.

Should I move this thread into the Kingdavid thread since much of his nonsense has already been addressed in the thread entitled Jesus, Horus and KingDavid8.com

changingmyself didn't provide any links so, where is this debate taking place?

All of the claims in Zeitgeist part 1 have been substantiated as well as the criticisms addressed in the New Zeitgeist Part 1 Sourcebook (2010). Acharya's books, articles, blogs and this very forum further address criticisms as well.

Astrotheology of the Ancients

As concerns KD's "clarifications," all these do is show he doesn't have a clue about ancient mythology and is therefore no expert at all to be paying any attention to. As Acharya says, Isis is a mythical goddess, not a real person, so she doesn't EVER have "sexual intercourse" with a physical body on planet Earth. Her mating with Osiris is allegorical and mythical, not literal.

Isis is an aspect of the Virgin Mother Goddess concept that dates back at least 7,000 years and revolves around the Divine Feminine aspect of creation, who reproduces without a partner. She's not in a body and doesn't have genitalia. The point is that the concept of the divine female giving birth without a male partner - i.e., virginally - existed in pre-Christian times, not whether or not there were "real people" who actually gave birth without having sexual intercourse. See the works of Dr. Marguerite Rigoglioso for more on this concept:

Virgin Mother Goddesses of Antiquity

Neith, Virgin Mother of the World

KD8 has NO leg to stand on here. It's blatantly obvious the creators of Christianity took an old motif and reworked it to revolve around a Jewish maiden. He's lost, period.

The same goes for the rest of his "clarifications." We can do the same thing with every one of his "clarifications," in fact. Acharya's already done it, over and over again. As another example, we are not saying - and Acharya's repeated this many times - that Horus was a real person who was thrown down to the ground and nailed to a cross by soldiers. What we're saying is that the god on the cross or in cross shape/cruciform is a pre-Christian motif that was blatantly taken over by Christianity and worked into their gospel fable.

Was Horus "Crucified?"

Also see all the gods and goddesses on crosses or in cruciform posted here:

Cruciforms/Gods on Crosses

We're saying the same thing that early Church fathers Justin Martyr, Tertullian and Minucius Felix are when they themselves raise up the comparisons between Christ and other gods of the Roman Empire:

"And when we say also that the Word, who is the first-birth of God, was produced without sexual union, and that He, Jesus Christ, our Teacher, was crucified and died, and rose again, and ascended into heaven, we propound nothing different from what you believe regarding those whom you esteem sons of Jupiter." Early Church Father and Saint Justin Martyr (c. 150 AD/CE)

We are just building upon Justin Martyr's remarks to prove his point that Christians propound nothing different. What we're saying is that the creators of Christianity took a bunch of MYTHICAL MOTIFS and historicized them, making them appear as if they took place around a Jewish guy in history 2,000 years ago. We are not claiming that the Christians found an ancient encyclopedia with the exact same stories about real people and then changed their names - 'the copycat theory' is a straw man argument that is transparent as glass.

KD is engaging in willful incomprehension that only reflects his own inabilities to conceptualize. There won't be a thing we can do with someone with such dishonest blinkers on. He'll just keep moving the goal post every time we score. Any reasonable person can see what he's up to.

Also, just because someone claims to be a "skeptic," doesn't mean they are educated on these issues regarding Zeitgeist part 1 or Acharya's work in astrotheological studies. As we can see from the massive amount of information Acharya's dug up and published over the many years she's been studying the subject, most "skeptics" don't have a clue about the astrotheological connections to comparative religion and mythology. Most are NOT experts on the subject at all.

Looks like the debate is raging on over here- http://www.skepticfriends.org/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=8

What I sent to CM was how I think that such trolls are trying to set a trap by sticking so hardline to the old Zeitgeist lists of claims and demanding explicit unambiguous statements, in other words, these folks don't really want PARALLELS, they wants carbon copies, with just the names of pagan gods scratched out and Jesus written in with no other alterations whatsoever. I was explaining how our arguments and evidences for many of those claims contain several nuances which I know from first hand experience KD8 will just convolute and use as red herrings to try and simply wear out people's patience rather than actually refute their arguments. Etc.

So I basically told her to see if she can get him to scrap that outdated list and just work on what actually comes up naturally within the primary texts.

Perhaps starting with the Pyramid Texts.

What makes it fun to me is that kingdavid doesn't get to decide if we have proven our point or not, the "skeptic" voters do.

Who ever loses has to admit it and per agreement, kingdavid has to link his website to that forum.

There are going to be at least 2 mods of the forum that are going to be "refs" and helpers to post links and pictures.

It would be really nice if I could get at least a few people to help. If nothing else but to help me figure out the fallacies or lies (for lack of a better word) that kingdavid posts in his replies.

Any takers???

Ohhh... I wasn't aware this was going to be a real debate with a deciding audience. Well, that's much better. Maybe that way there will be less smoke in the smoke screen.

Yes, it will be a real one. Do you want to see my evidence so far?
Some of it I have not gone over yet and I need to get the education from the sources. That was not a part of the deal but I am doing it so he doesn't cry and whine. This is just from some of my notes.

HORUS

VIRGIN MOTHER:
“The Egyptian goddess who was equally the Great Virgin (hwnt) and Mother of the God was the object of the very same praise bestowed upon her successor [Mary, Virgin Mother of Jesus]” - "Isis in the ancient world" by Egyptologist Dr. Reginald E. Witt.

1. In a text in the Abydos Temple of Seti !, Isis herself declares: "I am the great VIRGIN"

2. Found among the glyphs of Denderah, are glyphs depicting the sex between Isis and Osiris. The glyphs show Isis sending out her Bah (spirit), Sother (a hawk), the hawk being inseminated on Osiris' phallus, and then returning back to Isis. Thus, the sex between Isis and Osiris was non-physical, leaving her virginity intact.

In fact, that is the traditional date for the winter solstice on the Julian calendar...

Horus, the child is crowned in the seat of Osiris at the end of three days. In the lunar typing, Osiris dies at the winter solstice to be reborn again as Horus on the third day in the moon.

“In the Orient, however, the birth and the baptism of Jesus were celebrated respectively on January 5 and 6. B. "the date of Christ’s birth did not become an issue until sometime in the fourth century. This festival of OSIRIS covers CRUCIFIXION, DEATH FOR 3 DAYS AND RESURRECTION OF HORUS. BECAUSE AS I HAVE PROVEN...HORUS IS OSIRIS by this time.

Osiris: death and afterlife of a god By Bojana Mojsov
As Egyptian history unfolded, the cult of Osiris grew in populatiry. The Middle Kingdom (2055-1650 BC) he assumed the role of the Great Judge of souls in the netherworld who dispensed bread and bear to the justified souls. Every year in the town of Abydos his death and resurrection after 3 days were celebrated in a publicly enacted passion play called the Mysteries of Osiris...
the cult of Osiris clasped hands with the cult of Ra and Osiris became the enlightened savior god, shepherd to immorality for ordinary people. ...Isis came to be worshipped as the primordial virgin and her child the Savior of the world.

Horus the younger was the reincarnation of Osiris.

It is disconcerting to find an adult Horus here assisting at his own conception; in order to explain this away the circularity of this construction and the puzzling multiplicity of Horus, both ancient and moder scholars have resroted to variations of the myth. Thus some versions, Geb and Nut have not four but five chidlren, among them one "Horus the elder."

"Babel is also the place of the origin of the infamous mother-child cult. According to extrabiblical tradition, Nimrods wife, Semiramis, had a son named Tammuz through an alleged miraculous conception. According to tradition, Tammuz was killed by a wild animal and miraculously restored to life. The legend of Semiramis and Tammuz eventually spread from Babel thorughout the world, but their names were changed in different cultures. In Assyria, the mother was Ishtar and the son was Tammuz. In Phoenicia, it was Astarte and Baal. In Egypt, it was Isis and Osiris or Horus. In Greece, it was Aphrodite and Eros. In Rome, it was Venus and Cupid."

"Diodorus quoted Egyptians who told him that Isis had discovered many drugs and had resurrected her dead son Horus and made him immortal. This idea about Isis clearly came from a very early ancient tradition. In the Pyramid Texts, inscribed 2500 years earlier, Isis and her sister Nephthys arrived "with healing on their wings" to heal and resuscitate Osiris. Thus, there is no doubt that Isis's association with healing and revivifying far atedated any possible Greek influence"

What DO Egyptologists SAY?
"Jesus was identified with Horus. One amulet depicts on one side a winged, young Horus who tames crocodiles and scorpions. The passions of Jesus were mixed with Osirian traditions. Bes, an Egyptian folk god who protected women during birth, was also identified with Christ." --- "Egyptian Archaeology" By Willeke Wendrich. Willieke Wendrich is a professor in Egyptian Archaeology.

Dr. Erik Hornung, a professor emeritus of Egyptology
“Notwithstanding its superficial rejection of everything pagan, early Christianity was deeply indebted to ancient Egypt. In particular, the lively picture of the ancient Egyptian afterlife left traces in Christian texts; thus, among the Copts, and later in Islam, we encounter a fiery hell quite like that of the Egyptians…"
"The descensus [descent] of Jesus, which played no role in the early church, was adopted into the official Credo after 359, thanks to apocryphal legends that again involved Egypt. Christ became the sun in the realm of the dead, for his descent into the netherworld had its ultimate precursor in the nightly journey of the ancient Egyptian sun god Re…”

"The dead Osiris, however, was deified and a personal creed was attached to his life and death, which was very much like that of Christianity based on the suffering and death of Jesus."

"As another example of assimilation between Horus and Christ may be cited a bas-relief on the wall of the early Egyptian Church belonging to the Memnonium at Abydos. In it Christ is portrayed sitting on his throne with the horned disk of Horus and holding a modification of the staff or crook of Osiris."

KRISHNA

Star in the East=Krishna's birth was signaled by the Star in the East. In the Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 10 Chapter 3 "The Birth of Krishna" the very first line reads: "Then there was the supreme hour all-auspicious and most suitable with the ROHINI CONSTELLATION rising and all the stars in a FAVORABLE POSITION."

Rohini's corresponding star is Aldebaran. In hindu astronomy Rohini is identified as Aldebaran, which is the next star in the Star in the East's alignment with Orion's Belt.

VISHNU PURANA BOOK V CHAPTER 2 the first verse states quote:

"The nurse of the universe, Jagaddhatri, thus enjoined by the god of gods, CONVEYED SIX SEVERAL EMBRYOS into the womb of Devaki, and the SEVENTH ONE, after a season into Rohini's womb."

According to the Srimad Bhagavatam, Vishnu chose Devaki and Vasudeva because they lived the most non-sensual, austere lives. It states that they endured aeons of "TAPASYA" or "MORTIFICATION" (no sex or material enjoyments -- extreme self-discipline). Furthermore, the reason they could not give birth to Krishna in thier PAST LIVES was due to having sex just once (gramya-dharma or gramya-bhogan). Instead, they gave birth to Pris'nigarbha (an incomplete Krishna)

2 Bhagavad Gita, 10.20; Campbell, 315
"As Vishnu, Krishna is the second person of the TRINITY, he is considered the "Beginning, the Middle and the End," ("Alpha and Omega"), as well as being omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent."

Dr. Zacharias P. Thundy states of Jesus dying on the cross:
"This is the story of Gautama, a holy man, who was wrongfully condemned to die on the cross for murdering the courtesan Bhadra. Gautama is impaled on the cross, and his mentor Krishna Dvapayana visits him and enters into a long dialogue, at the end of which he dies at the place of skulls after engendering two offspring, the progenitors of the Ikshavaku Dynasty"

*"Passion of Attis," is also related by Professor Merlin Stone:
Roman reports of the rituals of Cybele record that the son...was first tied to a tree and then buried. Three days later a light was said to appear in the burial tomb, whereupon Attis rose from the dead, bringing salvation with him in his rebirth.
Stone, Merlin. "When God was a Woman"

Dr. Andrew T. Fear states:
"The youthful Attis after his murder was miraculously brought to life again three days after his demise. The celebration of this cycle of death and renewal was one of the major festivals of the metroac cult. Attis therefore represented a promise of reborn life and as such it is not surprising that we find representations of the so-called mourning Attis as a common tomb motif in the ancient world."

MITHRAS:
""One of these was the worship of Mithras, an Indo-Aryan deity.. associated with the heavens and light. His cult entered the Roman Empire in the first century BCE and during the formative decades of the Christian movement was a formidable rival to the latter.. Given his solar associations, it made sense to believe that he had been born on the darkest day of the year, the winter solstice. That falls this year on December 21 but the Romans celebrated the birth feast of Mithras on December 25!"
Gary Leupp is Professor of History at Tufts University, and Adjunct Professor of COMPARATIVE Religion.

Dr. Badi Badiozamani states: "a "person" named "Mehr" or Mithra was "born of a VIRGIN named Nahid Anahita ("immaculate") and that "the worship of Mithra and Anahita, the virgin mother of Mithra, was well-known in the Achaemenian period [558-330 BCE]"

DIONYSUS
"Liber the son of Jupiter and Proserpina, was ripped apart by the Titans. Jupiter ground up his heart, put it in a potion, and gave it to Semele to drink. When she became pregnant from this, Juno took the form of Beroe, Semele's nurse and said to her, "dear CHILD, ask Jupiter to come to you as he comes to Juno, so that you may know how great a pleasure it is to lie with a god.Prodded in this fashion, she asked Jupiter to do so and was STRUCK by a thunderbolt. Jupiter took Liber out of her womb and gave him to Nysus to raise. This is why he is called Dionysus and TWICE MOTHERED." HYGINUS FABULAE 167 (1st Century BC) [167] CLXVII. LIBER

This means, 1. Dionysus was placed into the heart of Semele, NOT BY SEXUAL UNION.

"Burkhard Scherer, Reader in Religious Studies at England's Canterbury Christ Church University has stated: "...it is very important to draw attention to the fact that there is [massive] Buddhist influence in the Gospels....Since more than a hundred years, Buddhist influence in the Gospels has been known and acknowledged by scholars from BOTH sides."

"Historian Jerry H. Bentley notes "the possibility that Buddhism influenced the early development of Christianity" and that scholars "have drawn attention to many parallels concerning the births, lives, doctrines, and deaths of the Buddha and Jesus"

History of Religions, Professor E. Washburn Hopkins of Yale goes so far as to say, "Finally, the life, temptation, miracles, parables, and even the disciples of Jesus have been derived directly from Buddhism."

"The Buddha Legend and the Life of Jesus", Professor Rudolf Seydel of the University of Leipzig noted around fifty similarities between Buddhist and Christian parables and teachings.

Dr. Christian Lindtner writes:
"The Sanskrit manuscripts prove without a shadow of doubt:
Everything that Jesus says or does was already said or done by the Buddha.
Jesus, therefore, is a mere literary fiction.
The Last Supper was the Last Supper of the Buddha.
Baptism in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit was baptism in
the name of the Buddha, the Dharma and the Samgha.
All the miracles performed by Jesus had already been performed by the Buddha"

"The twelve disciples of Jesus were, in fact, the twelve disciples of the Buddha.(picture on my page
it was king Gautama—not Jesus—who was crucified.
It was Tathâgata—not Jesus—who was resurrected....
There is nothing in the Gospels, no person, no event, that cannot be traced back

Jesus is a Buddha disguised as a new Jewish legislator, teacher, Messiah and
king of Israel"

ADD PICTURE

Dr. Friedrich Max Müller said:
"Between the language of The Buddha and his disciples, and the language of Christ and his apostles, there are strange coincidences. Even some Buddhist legends and parables sound as if taken from the New Testament, though we know that many of them existed before the beginning of the Christian era."

HORUS THE STAR
MISC...LOOK UP
In the early dynastic period (ca. 3000 - 2600 BCE) Horus is explicitly identified as a star. An annal from the first dynasty reign of King Aha bears the name “Festival of the Horus-Star-of-the-Gods.”

Early royal domain names likewise contain reference to the Horus-star. The domain established by Anedjib (also First Dynasty) was called Hr-sb~-ht, “Horus, star of the corporation (of gods).”12 Hetepsekhemwy (Second Dynasty) founded a new domain called Hr-sb~-b~w (Cant get those symbols correct!), “Horus risen as a star.”

A mythical fragment in a hymn cycle to Inana reads (note: MAIDEN means VIRGIN)
Verses 10-22 "My lady, on your aquiring the stature of Heaven, MAIDEN (VIRGIN ) Inana."

Dionysis: December 25th
Brumalia was an ancient roman solstice festival honouring Dionysis, generally held on December 25th. The festival included drinking and merriment. The name is derived from the latin word "bruma", which means "shortest day". In roman festivals, the Brumalia was a feast of Bacchus, celebrated during the space of 30 days, commencing on November 24th.
It was instituted by Romulus, who entertained the Senate during this time.

Dramas were staged in abydos witht he leading roles assigned to high ranking community leaders or to temple priests. The mysteries recounted the life, death, mummification, resurrection and ascension of Osiris and the dramas were part of a pageant that lasted for many days. Egyptians flocked to the celebrations. After the performances, a battle was staged between the FOLLOWERS of Horus and the Followers of Set....Part of the pageant was a procession in which a statue of Osiris, made out of electrum, gold or some other precious material was carried from the temple. An outdoor shrine was erected to recieve the god and to allow the people to gaze upon "the beautiful one"...

"These facts would not matter so much now-after all, many Greek cities held their public festivals honouring Dionysus, and many Greek cities had vast open air theatres - but about 40 of the plays that were presented at Athens in the fith and fourth centuries BC can still be read today."

22. Born of a virgin
LIBER

"They particularly insist on the preternatural birth of Dionysus from Semele, on which doubts had been impiously cast by Pentheus. They implore Thebes, the birthpace of Semele, not to reject the holy rites; and predict , with the usual entheusasm of religious votaries that the whole earth will soon be converted to the new worship."

"In contrast the miraculous birth of divine or semi-divine heros is a characteristic of the mythology of the higher civilisations. Dionysus son of Zeus is born of a mortal virgin, Semele who later became immortalised through the intervention of her divine son; Jesus the sun of god, is born of a mortal virgin, Mary, who...; such stories can be duplicated over and over again. They do not indicate ignorance".

The Harvard theological review, Volume 8 By Harvard Divinity School Page 108
At first in the East the Nativity (of Jesus) was celebrated on the same day as the Feast of Baptism (January 6) the ancient Feast of the Ephiphay of Dionysus. Later in Rome and the West it was celebrated on December 25, the Julian winter solstice or Dies invincti solis.

28. "God's only begotten son" (not visible on the list, but the voice-over says it)
History of the Literature of Ancient Greece By Karl Otfried Müller Page 237
"According to them, Dionysus-Zagreus was a son of Zeus, whome he had begotton, in the form of a dragon, upon his daughter Cora-Persephone, before she was carried off to the kingdom of shadows."

"Pallus, however, succeded saving his palpitating heart, which was swallowed by Zeus in a drink. As the ancients considered the heart the seat of life, Dionysus was again contained in Zeus, and again begotten by him."
Karl Otfried Müller was a German scholar and Philodorian, or admirer of ancient Sparta, who introduced the modern study of Greek mythology.
His university education was partly in Breslau (now Wrocław) and partly in Berlin. In Berlin, he was spurred towards the study of Greek literature, art and history by the influence of Philipp August Böckh. In 1817, after the publication of his first work, Aegineticorum liber, on the Aeginetans, he received an appointment at the Magdaleneum in Breslau, and in 1819 he was made adjunct professor of ancient literature at the University of Göttingen, his subject being the archaeology and history of ancient art.

"Other resurrected gods of that period before Jesus were Attis and Mithra, sacrificed at the Spring equinox, and then rising and ascending to heaven. Other gods of that period who were eaten in the form of bread or wafers included Adonis and Dionysus, among many others, especially the Egyptian Osiris, whom the Egyptians called “the good shepherd,” “the Lord of Lords,” the King of Kings,” “the resurrection and the life.” Osiris was only one of many god-men who suffered, died, rose again and lived eternally in heaven. Human beings believed in resurrection and eternal life after death at least 150,000 years before Jesus was ever born. This sharing of iconic stories is called “mythological diffusion.”

"Can we, for example, argue that the *** of Dionysus was the same in kind as that of Osiris? Yes, Herodotus again is explicit. He says of the Osiris feast in the month Athyr..."
At any rate of the gist of the*** was the same. Thus we may conclude that the fate of Dionysus , in Herodotus was the same. Thus we may conclude that the fate of Dionysus, in Herodotus' time as well as later, was a Sparagmos; doubtless he had, like the other Year-Daimons, a very special enemy; was torn in pieces, scattered over the fields, lost, sought for, discovered and recognized, just as Osiris was. ..."

Now, when we remember that Pentheus is only another form of Dionysus himself-like Zagreus, Orpheus, Osiris and the other daimons who are torn in pieces and put together again-we can see that Bacchae is simply the old Sacer Ludus itself, scacely changed at all, except for the doubling of the hero into himself and his enemy."

"In the case before us we have a uniform ritual of the elements of which we have disentangled-the armed dance over the child, the mimic of death and rebirth' but the myth shifts; it is told variously of Zagreus, Dionysus, Zeus, and there is every variety of detal as to how the child is mimetically killed and how the resurrection is effected..."

You got your work cut out for you, it seems. I still think anything involving KD8 is like chasing the wind.

KingDavid8 runs away again-
Quote:
Once again, you're twisting my words, and this will be my last response to you in this forum.

^See that here.

And hell, THIS isn't even the debate that ChangingMyself was referring to here in the o.p. of this thread, that one hasn't even started yet. So how is KD8 supposed to handle meat when he can't even handle milk?

And you need to hold him to that statement, CM, and remember that he said he will not reply to you again in that FORUM. Not just the specific thread you're in right now, but the entire FORUM. Which means he also can't reply to you when begin your thread presenting all the evidence you have collected.

His responses are all the same ones he tried to bring up here. Which amazes me. He KNOWS they're wrong, he got refuted on them and retreated into the night, even burning the bridge behind him(removing the link to our thread here).
Yet he has the audacity to keep rehashing that same bullshit! Well no matter, as ChangingMyself has kept spanking his ass back down over at SkepticFriends as well, and with the same result- KD8 running away with his fingers in his ears.

So kudos to CM.
