By the way, for those who aren't aware, the image cover for the 2011 Astrotheology Calendar is of Gobekli Tepe in modern day Turkey, at around 12,000 years old BP.

Here is a very interesting observation of the Gobekli Tepe Constellations with some great astronomical image juxtapositions.

At the bottom of the webpage you'll also find this article - Precession of the Equinoxes and Calibration of Astronomical Epochs

National Geographic Magazine includes an article on Göbekli Tepe for June 2011 titled, The Birth of Religion.

Here's the photo album and here's a short video clip.

A pillar with a carved, elongated fox stands against the starry night. To protect the fragile reliefs, archaeologists plan to construct a roof over the site this year. Pondering the mysteries of this ancient temple under an open sky will soon be a thing of the past.

WTF!!!

Big red flag here. So they're going to cover up the sky so as these megaliths can not be studied against the stars, precession, etc.???

Where did you find that comment, Tat? It doesn't appear to be in the Nat Geo article.

Maybe we need to contact them and request they get some astronomers / archaeoastronomers in there to investigate any potential astrotheological aspects. Which they can still do even with a tent over top by measuring the angles. They can also use their accurate model for that too.

Part of this may have to do with the heat/sun to make it easier to study.

It's in the photos link, near the end of the photos. It struck me as them wanting to build a permament roof to protect the site, as in seeing the stars above the site will be a thing of the past after the new roof is built to protect the site. But I guess even that shouldn't prohibit astrotheological studies as you say, it just came off as sort of suspect like they want to cover over the astrotheological dynamic for whatever the reason.

The 2012 Astrotheology Calendar

P.S. Special thanks to our dear friend Allan Jones who created most all of the videos for Acharya S/Stellar House Publishing. He was in the editing process when he passed away. This is his last video. He was an outstanding person and a great friend. He will be sorely missed.

Here's the new 2013 Astrotheology Calendar!

The theme for 2013 is the milky way:

Quote:
The Milky Way

"Picture the ancients lying on the ground, gazing up at the night sky in awe, believing that the vast and mysterious cosmos was attempting to communicate with them. The world's myths concerning the night-sky celestial bodies represent the result of such star-gazing wonderment.

As a prominent feature of the night sky, the Milky Way Galaxy has been the subject of myths globally since antiquity, viewed as the "Celestial River" and "Great Sky River," mirroring earthly waterways such as the Nile and Ganges. Asian myths call the Milky Way the "Silver River of Heaven," where dwell the sun and his daughter, in China reflecting the Yellow River, while in Peru it symbolized the Vilcanota River. The native Australians viewed the Milky Way as a river in the sky with dwellings and places of danger. The biblical "River of the Water of Life" (Rev 22) may also symbolize the Milky Way, with the "tree of life," bearing twelve crops of fruit," representing the 12 signs of the zodiac on either side."

Front cover:

Quote:
"...we feature an image of the Egyptian goddess Nut, representing both the night and the Milky Way, her body arched protectively across the sky. The ancients depicted the sun's daily journey as entering her mouth, travel along her body and exiting between her legs."

I just love that - special thanks to our dear friend Vega!

Addressing a couple criticisms of the Astrotheology Calendars:

1. No hole to hang it up
http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R26QLX5N ... tore=books

Each of the calendars include at the bottom of the description the comment: "(Also as before, there is no hole in this calendar-book, but you can easily hang it using a push-pin/tack.)" Or simply get a hole punch to create your own hole.

Since the manufacturer doesn't technically make "calendars" they do not provide the service of creating a hole. It's really not a big deal if you're aware ahead of time. A problem with Amazon UK and some other countries is that they still haven't added the description yet.

If you check your calendar you will notice that most all of the reading material is in the later part of the calendar - specifically done to make it as easy as possible to create your own hole with either a push/pin tack or hole punch.

2. Resolution of the photographs is low
http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R1MTB433 ... tore=books

The images are not always easy to obtain at all let alone get in high resolution but she does the best she can with what she has to work with. The images are not as easy to obtain as kitten calendars, for example. Acharya doesn't have the funds to travel to these difficult to get to places around the world and take the photos herself in high res. Plus, again, the manufacture considers these books and does not technically make "calendars" so, therefore, do not offer high resolution images even if the images themselves were in HD. The entire calendar is capped at 300 (DPI) as are all books, which is standard. The only way to resolve these issues is with a new manufacturer, which could happen but, even then some of the images may still not be HD.

So, at the end of the day, the low ratings due to no hole and/or low res images are in fact completely out of Acharya's control.

In a perfect world all the images in the calendar would be in HD but, that's just not reality. If anybody has great images they've taken themselves while traveling around the world that would be perfect for the Astrotheology Calendars feel free the send them to Acharya and she will be happy to cite you as the source. Or, if there are artists out there that would like to do astrotheology artwork for the calendars feel free to submit them to us for consideration.

The fact remains that there is no other calendar like these in the world so, we're lucky to have these original Astrotheology Calendars at all. Appreciate them while you can because Acharya may not make any more unless she gets more support for them.

Will folks help out a bit by responding to some of the comments at Amazon? Mostly to make sure people are well informed of what they're getting and what Acharya is up against. You can share this direct link but, since Amazon won't allow it to hotlink you'll need to post it like this with spaces:

Would anybody like to make some suggestions or share some thoughts for a cover and theme for the 2014 Astrotheology Calendar?

Want to share any experiences giving them out as Christmas or birthday gifts to friends or family as an introduction into the world of astrotheology?

Do you want Stellar House to continue this calendar series or no?

As for the cover images and themes, thus far we have:

2010: Cover - Stonehenge ; with Zodiac, days of week, ancient calendars at year 1 and more (nearly 50 pages!)

2011: Cover - Gobekli Tepe ; with BC/AD piece

2012: Cover - Chitzen Itza ; with Maya & 2012 theme

2013: Cover - Milky Way & theme

For 2014, how about the four blood red moons as a cover and theme?

Please feel free to make cover and theme suggestions for future calendars and feel free to post images too - especially if they're your own. If you have good photos you've taken yourself and would like them to be considered to be included in the Astrotheology calendar, please do so.

The red moons sounds fine. I've drawn a blank so far trying to think of anything. I'll keep an eye out though.
